If done properly, the superman punch works great in MMA. It's an effective punch, not just for artistic visual effect. It's not like some fighters use that punch to say "Damn, I'm going to do something unorthodox to try and look cool." That punch is very effective for some athletic mma'ists, like George St. Pierre. He sets up and uses it beautifully.

The superman punch wouldn't work in boxing, and there is no need for someone to try it. There is no kicking involved in boxing. So if someone actually does use a superman punch in boxing, it would be for artistic visual effect only....and for showboating.

It works in MMA because kicking is allowed. It's basically a fake kick, punch. People think the kick is comming and get punched instead, so it isn't as easy to see comming in MMA, as you people think.

In boxing, if you get hit with it. Then, I don't know what to say.

Good post. Should have scrolled down further before I responded to the OP.

It should be, I don't think anyone is ****** enough to do it though because it leaves you so off balanced and open to a counter shot. That being said the shot works well for MMA because of the kicking. Feint a kick, superman punch in the face. That fear isn't there in boxing.

It is,but world class boxers are not clueless meatheads like MMGAY fighters. The fact that this is used as an effective weapon in MMGAY just goes to show the level of mediocrity in this so called sport.

Could you imagine someone doing that in a real fight? I couldn't.I don't know someone with an ounce of dignity who even attempt such a silly move.

It's looks like something a child would attempt while playing around with his mates.Or perhaps something to use clowning around while jumping into a swimming pool.

He did tend to leap with his punches alot, but so what? He was a great enough athlete to permit him with getting away with things like that.

He also wasn't a cautious fairy like Georges St.Pierre.
