I don't think it's illegal...but why would you even bother throwing it in boxing?!?!

I mean, the whole point of the punch is to fake them out with the kick hench the motion...so if they're not anticipating a kick or even bothering to look out for one...why would they even car if that leg comes up?

          of course it is.

the reason you never see it is because all you have to do is lightly stick your fist out there and the guy doing it is KOed. I mean imagine, hes in the air and all his weight is just falling right down on your fist.
its like those flying knees...they leave you wide open as can be.

I thought it looked like Chavez leaped forward and lost his footing after leaping to land his punch.

            to each his own.

thats as close as we are gonna get to a superman punch in boxing.

              I was going to reference R. Mayweather-JCC

Chavez does the superman punch then loses his footing as he lands but still scores the KD.

Floyd Patterson was known for his leaping left hook, it's not the superman punch and other fighters have done it but Patterson used to literally jump in whilst throwing the left hook. It's as close as your going to get to a fighter consistantly using that type of punch because of the risks. Your off balance if you miss, easily countered, telegraphed punch, chin is up in the air while your throwing it etc

At 2:00 Patterson throws it, its poor quality but you can kind of see it.

Floyd Patterson called it his "Kangaroo punch". It wouldn't work unless you had great athleticism, and even then it's an unnecessary risk to take.

On the topic of leaping and left hooks, Floyd is also notably known for his leaping left hook.

He had the leaping "Gazelle punch" too but he also had the leaping right hand.
