Sparring sessions mean nothing fight wise. You don't go into a sparring session to win. You go into a sparring session to work on things such as range, timing, feints and setups. You do it just to help yourself find a groove against a particular style.
Do any of you actually believe that Floyd was actually trying in that clip? He was doing his work. That is all it is. It might be used as an ego boost to a lower tier fighter, but it is no reflection on how an actual fight would go.Last edited by deanrw; 05-30-2010, 10:15 AM.

On another note. I like the way Floyd approaches sparring sessions. He seems to use them to actually find angles, keep his timing and help him relax while getting punched at. For his counter punching style he approaches his sparring matches perfectly. He uses them to find openings, keep his reflexes sharp while keeping in shape.
We have heard of so many coming out of sparring sessions declaring some sort of victory against him. That is because Floyd uses the sessions to his benefit.

You cant just look at it straight up when one guy is ready for a mega fight and the other guys is coming off of months of doing nothing & just starting to train again.
However, I also dont rip Spaddy for the Dorin fight like some others. That was the fight where people told him that he had to change his style and be more fan friendly if he wanted to make some money so it was the only fight of his career where he fought differently and he payed for it
That is still moot. Floyd approached it like he is supposed to approach it. Getting in big exchanges or putting heat on an inferior opponent is not going to help him in sparring. It would wreck sparafora's upcoming fight if he got injured and Floyd would lose out on sparring by not getting any in at all.
People put too much expectations into these sparring sessions. I remember a while back Peterson and his camp came out of sparring with Floyd declaring some sort of victory. Peterson then gets a fight against Bradley and got beat up. Did Peterson give himself false expectations and fight Bradley wrong? You be the judge.Last edited by deanrw; 05-30-2010, 10:37 AM.
