You talk of steps down and steps up like its lots , JMM is only manipulating a few pounds of real fight weight not the division weigh-in limits like you assume , he weighed 143 fighting Pac who was weighing 146 and this was with a LW weigh-in ,,,, guys need to understand how water weight is manipulated for a weight 30 hrs before the fight , in reality the weigh-in is nowhere near as important as the actual weight they fight at , for instance Hatton weighed 153 fighting KT Castillo etc all his JW fights he was 153ish stepping in the ring , fights Floyd at WW guess what he weighed 153 on the night , against Luis he weighed 159 and when you look at his body its easy to see how sluggish he was at 159 , thats only 6 pound of his best ,,,,,

What? What you are asking Marquez to do is to go from fighting guys that he was used to, 126-130 (3 levels down) and a couple at 135 (2 levels down), to fighting a guy who is used to fighting boxers at 147. To top it off, Marquez had to make this transition against a top WW named Floyd.

If Marquez had a great punch and was able to bring it up to the WW level, maybe.....but Marquez was known to be a counter puncher with decent but not overwhelming power. Floyd laughed when he felt Marquez's punches. Marquez admitted that going to WW slowed him down so he stepped back 2 levels! As for defensively, Marquez had to bear with Floyd's heavier punches.This was something Marquez wasn't used to and it showed on his face during the fight.

If its nothing to go up or down then why was Floyd stating it was too much to go down a couple of pounds? If its not too much (moving up in weight) then Floyd can easily move up and fight middleweights but for some reason his resume has many over-bloated lightweights and junior welterweights and so on.


Not sure why you are defending this but now lets add the fact that Marquez was 36 years old and who didn't even have a pre-fight at ww,...... it was not a fair fight. Again, why not have Floyd fight a true WW that had been calling him out too.

its always cuz of floyd or at least most of the time. with the shane fight, you could place half the blame on shane being 39 years old & away from the ring for 1 year & 5 months off his last fight.
