Mayweather has always been a marquee name. Pacquiao's stardom has steadily grown.

It's partly Mayweather's last name, partly his amatuer success, and partly that he is American born.

Pacquiao basically struck stardom with the first Barrera fight, and since then his name has grown. The big turning point though was the fight with Dela Hoya. Lets be honest, at least in the case of casuals, most viewers on that night were tuning in to see a Dela Hoya tune-up fight. What they got was a case of Pacquiao shocking the world. It was on that night that Pacquiao went from boxing superstar to living legend.

Since then, Pacquiao's numbers have been astronomically higher than in prior fights. His last fight against a guy essentially seen as a ham-and-egger in Clotty did nearly double his highest pre-Dela Hoya fight, i.e. Morales 2, and that was at a time when Morales was still probably the bigger name (not to mention that Mexicans are a huge PPV contingent).

If you want to compare numbers, here's what you should compare:
      5.) Mayweather vs Hatton - 920,000 buys = $50 million revenue
      9.) Pacquiao vs Hatton - 850,000 buys = $45 million revenue
Very similar numbers against a common opponent. And Hatton was still a name when he fought Pac., so don't come back with some bull**** that Hatton was already damaged goods because he had a loss to Mayweather.

      Exhibit 2:
      7.) Mayweather vs Mosley - 1.4 million buys = $78.3 million revenue
      10.) Pacquiao vs Cotto - 1.25 million buys = $70 million revenue
Again, pretty damn similar numbers. And Mosely is a bigger name, although Cotto was seen as a damn good opponent for Pac., and is himself a big name. So, I'd say slight edge to Mosley for bigger B-side opponent, but reasonably close in terms of status, and reasonably close in terms of numbers.

Oh yeah, numbers lie quite often. Well, not the numbers per se, rather what is done with them amounts to lies.

A good book this, perhaps you'd like to check it out:

who gives a *** about their ppv sales? You are not gonna pay 60$ to watch either fighter count their money so please stop trying to convince us that either one of these fighter deserves more money than the other.

i can see you read the book.

mayjmm competes with cotto pac and may mosley goes against pac clottey.

            nice try though.

floyd came out of retirement and did 1.1 then 1.4mil with a non PPV draw.

while pac did 1.25 with cotto then went down to a fail 700k. hahaha

            may>>>>>>>pac.

people lie, numbers dont. nice try though

Best part is when he says that Mayweathers last name is part of the reason for him being a cash cow.

You're ******ed. Mayweather was groomed from day one to be a star in the states. Plus he is a memer of a fighting family.

This stuff is a little bit to much for you to comprehend as well. He's not hating, just being objective.

I am just happy and impressed that both guys have been so successful on PPV's in the past and think its great for Boxing that both of them sell so well, I don't particularly care for this who the bigger draw stuff anymore.
