It is probably a good move long term for Cotto as he gets strong backing for his company and Golden Boy as they need to get bigger in Puerto Rico, so I think it is a good move in that regard but you have to wonder about where he stands with Top Rank currently (IMO).

Cotto should be looking for a way out of Top Rank though if this is his plan, I do not know how long he had to extend for the Manny fight though.

Hopefully he gets bought out his contract.

But I have a feeling Oscar will only use him as a stepping stone for Khan and Alvarez down the line.

good news, Puerto Rican Boxing is a important staple in boxing, and no 2 better promotioins than MCP and GBP working together could help maintain tht important part of boxing's young talent keep flowing, good job and best of luck to both parties on this mission.

A lot of people here seem to think that Miguel Cotto wants out of his Top Rank contract, however, I don't know if you all recall that a few months or weeks before he was due to renew his contract, Cotto and De la Hoya went to play golf together and the media was all over it because they thought that Cotto would leave TopRank. However, just before the Pacquiao fight, Cotto signed an extension to his contract for two more years. It doesn't seem like he wants out. In hindsight, that meeting between DLH and Cotto was probably to discuss THIS deal.

The 2007-2008 Cotto would have KOed Floyd if he wouldn't have retired and the today's Cotto would be able to make a competitive fight, something old "tired and tight" since round 2 Mosley couldn't do.

I don't understand why you're so passionate about Cotto of old knocking out (younger) Floyd, that's water under the bridge. Remember that Floyd was a lot faster before, throws more punches when he was younger. No one's gonna bet against who's gonna lose in embarassing fashion, it's either a decision or a KO. And I don't think Cotto ever had the skills to beat Floyd. Not saying he's not a great boxer...

Good move for both parties, major pipeline that is being tapped into..suprised this type of move was not in the recent bob arum contract with cotto that would forbid any type of dealings with an outside promotion even though he has his own promotion , But like a "conflict of interest" type of clause.

De la Hoya - 35 years old, out of his prime
Mosley - 39 years old, layoff of 16 months before Floyd
Hatton - champion at 140 fought Floyd at 147
Marquez - 36 years old, not to mention he is a lightweight
Corrales - couldn't make the weight when he fought Floyd (dehidrated)

The only real prime fighter who Floyd fought was Castillo and lost the first fight. Floyd really is the smartest fighter out there making people think he would have beaten all the fighters that he ducked.

honestly all of that.....it's just a list of excuses from a hater.........i can come up with a list like this for almost any fighter...........step your game up.......and learn to spell.

Don't get too upset boy. Relax, I've learned to spell before you were even born. I've offended your hero. Start thinking and just then post. Your *****s are really easily offended when the truth is displayed. What can we do if your hero isn't willing to take on real challenges so that you can brag about his accomplishments...

The only real prime fighter Manny fought was MAB. I can say the same thing.
Yes, Hatton was in his prime but fought Floyd in a higher division at 147. He was an undefeated champion at 140 and the size advantage made the difference.
I don't care about Manny, Manny should just take the tests to get some respect from me. I agree with Floyd on this matter, so if you think I am a Manny fan by pointing out why Floyds resume doesn't even give a small hint that he could of "wipped out the floor" with Cotto back in 2007-2008 or could beat Cotto in an embarrassing fashion nowadays, than you are wrong.
