Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya Agree To Work Together

In a very interesting bit of news, BoxingScene.com was advised that Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya have reached a deal to co-promote boxing events in Puerto Rico. Cotto and De La Hoya will unite under their promotional companies, Miguel Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions. Very interesting to some because Cotto is promoted by Golden Boy's biggest competitor, Top Rank. [Click Here To Read More]

That is interesting, I wonder why Top Rank did not offer a better deal since Puerto Ricans are very important to their bottom line.

Makes me wonder about who the fight in June is truly a showcase for.

Top Rank has a deal with Puerto Rico Best Boxing and they pretty much handle every big name on the island. They even had Cotto at one point.

Still though you need to hold on to your properties, Top Rank can not allow GPB to horn in on the top Puerto Rican prospects. That has been a pipeline for Top Rank and allowing GBP to get a real foothold is costly long term.

Especially when that foothold is being helped by one of Top Ranks main guys, that is not good business no matter how you slice it.
