Roach: The shoulder roll will not work against a southpaw.

not at all. he would use a high guard defense and once he starts using the shoulder roll, that means hes figured out the fighter and its gong to start opening up and whooping their assComment
-
yes he did, he used the shoulder roll once he was confortable and had mosley figure out.
but still switched between the sholder roll and high guard defense, mostly using the shoulder rollComment

If Pac is still in shape and not showing any signs of decline he brutally stops Mayweather in 10.
Mayweather has shown nothing in his last 4 fights that suggest he can defeat the Philipino sensation.Comment

Your right I forget that James Toney used to school southpaw cats using the shoulder roll. But, when using shoulder roll against a orthodox fighter, you either slip the jab or catch it then roll the shoulder on the right hand. When using against a south paw, you shoulder roll the right jab and slip the left hand. Exhibit Ait can work......but it is harder to transition from offense to defense using a shoulder roll against a lefty than it is against an ortho stance fighter.....u have to watch for the power left down the pipe.....either way it uaually takes Floyd 3 to 4 rds to figure out where the angles are coming from.....this is Pacs best window of opportunity.......
James Toney shoulder roll a Southpaw
I wouldnt insist that Mayweather use it against Pacquiao tho. High guard block seems just fine.Comment

pac isnt an inside fighter...Comment

watching JT work is a thing of beauty......i think it is more of a case of adjusting to the lefty.....imo it will always take an ortho fighter a few rds to adjust to the specific angles a lefty gives...even when they are sparring with lefties in camp......mayweather should def get Judah and maybe Spinks for his camp with Pac........Comment

i think you may be right......and that is why the first 4 or 5 rds will be incredibly dangerous for him......southpaw advantage is even more pronounced when the ortho fighter is moving forward......
I'm not sure i have ever seen Pac fight effectively moving back, which is why EM and JMM had success...they were able to use the str8 right to back Pac off and then they worked from there after they had time to figure out what angles the punches were coming from and also reduce Pacs output......and this is why Floyd may want to be aggressive....if he can get pac backing up onto the back foot he won't be able to do anything.......the problem in doing this arises early because he won't be able to pick up the angle of the punches and Pacs foot and hand speed allows him to land them.....
my thinking is that Flohyd will move in the first 3 rds and try to figure Pac out a little bit and then be very agressive with the right hand and i also expect a sustained and methodical attack to Pacs body....particularly with left hook to the liver (southpaw more exposed here at certain times) and also a str8 right to the hrt, plxs and left side of body.......he likes t shoot the str8 right to the body against lefties and he can be very damaging with it......but it also exposes him to short right hook coming in (see rd 2 of judah fight)Comment
