Holmes jab was too good, and I have seen Lewis outjabbed a couple of times. I think Holmes' jab would be especially effective, since I believe he had the longer reach.

after that, Lewis the destroyer would start showing up and go after Holmes. although Lewis would have success, Holmes had a outstanding chin, and could probbaly still cruise to the win in a competitive fight.

on a side note, I wonder why so many people think of Cooney as 'garbage'. he wasnt the best ever or anything, but he was a big guy with a very powerful punch and decent speed for his size, as well as being a decent body puncher too(which is often rare for guys his size).

on a side note, you can look at Holmes' and Lewis' common opponents.
which include Tyson, Mercer, Holyfield, and McCall.
Holmes got a close decision loss to McCall at 45 years old, Lewis went 1-1 with McCall.
Lewis KOed an older Tyson, prime Tyson KOed Holmes.
Holmes lost to Holyfield at 42, Lewis beat Holyfield twice
but most surprising is that Holmes at 42 beat Mercer more decisively than Lewis did. surprising

I am one of the biggest Lennox Lewis fan on Boxingscene, but objectively looking at it Holmes would beat Lennox by UD. I think at their best, Prime for Prime, Holmes and Ali were the only Heavyweight that would definitely beat Lennox at his best.

I honestly think no heavyweight in history except Prime Ali could beat the Larry Holmes version of 1979-1984. He had the best left jab in boxing history in my opinion.

And since when is Cooney glass-jawed? The only person to score a clean KO over him was George Foreman. Cooney certainly had a lot of deficiencies but I don't think a glass-jaw was one of them.

people really disliked holmes including sportswriters and judges.

some still say that the spinks loss was because people didn't want holmes (who was 48-0 at the time) to tie rocky marciano's 49-0 record.

        btw cooney was very underrated.

backlash because of his hype going into the fight?

he did beat norton , young and lyle as his 3 wins right before fighting holmes.

they were old but still......big and known names at the time.
