Hockey's another sport where endorsements are scarce. We don't have any multi-billion dollar skate companies up here . Though Nike did have a lame hockey ad campaign going for a while.

Roy Jones and Jesse James Leija are the only 2 boxers that I know of who have endorsement deals. Well I guess if you count Everlast they have a boatload of people representing their merchandise. But outside of boxing those are the only 2.

Leija has an endorsement deal with I think Verizon or some phone company, why in the hell would he get that is beyond me.

Here's a Forbes article on the subject from 2004, judging fom the date it looks like this year's version should be coming out soon:

Like spinks said Tiger cleans up. Unfortunately boxing seems to fall under "miscellaneous sports".

Another good question is who is the highest paid athlete, I know it won't mean their sport pays the most on avg. but would be interesting to know. I know Beckham makes $30M not including endorsements. Shaq is getting close to $30 M too. Back in the day Tyson was the hightest paid of anybody.

Tiger Woods 87 million in 2004, no other athlete can touch that. However, Oscar placed in third with 38 million.

Laila Ali doesn't have an endorsement deal?

MLB or NBA... you have to go by average salaries here. I'm sure they are the highest.

I dont like to consider Everlast and such as endorsements any pro boxer can get one of those. Laila I do believe she does, I am sure she had one with Nike at a time as well with Gatorade but that was a time when she frequently appeared on HBO's show Arliss.

Overall as a sport, I think the NBA makes the most money. In the NBA, u got some average players making over $10 million a year, while in boxing, you can only dream making $10 million if your a true prize fighter.

MLB minimum salary is $316K, average about $2.6 Million
NBA minimum is $385K, average about $5 million

I don't think any other sports compete with that, at least not in the States.
