Personally I think Billy Conn is very under-rated, and Archie Moore seems to be forgotten. The LHW division is second only to the Welterweight's as the highest standard division in boxing hisory. Yes Spinks can righteously claim to be one of the best LHW's ever, he's certainly the best LHW of the past 30 years. Just look at his record for proof
It's arguable that he's the best...but I don't think he is. I think that Ezzard Charles is probably the best, with Archie Moore coming in at second, and Spinks rated at third.
Easily put in the top 3 of greatest light heavyweights, if you count what he did at Heavyweight with his physical disadvantages than he could be ranked number 1 but everyone is going to have a different opinion. Spinks was great even before he met Mike Tyson and I am not even a Tyson fan.

You can't give him a higher light-heavyweight rating for what he did at heavy. That's like upping DLH's status as a lightweight for what he did at junior middleweight.

I realize that but Spinks was a remarkable fighter during his whole career.
Besides Action Blackson, I don't know too many people who would rank Spinks as the greatest Light Heavyweight of all-time.
In my opinion, Spinks ranks behind greats like Ezzard Charles, Sam Langford, Archie Moore and Gene Tunney at this weight. Possible top five for Spinks, but then he'd get some very stiff competition for that spot from the likes of Bob Foster, Tommy Loughran and Billy Conn.
Somewhere between the fifth and eighth spots for me.
