Serious Question: Why did it take four years for JMM-PAC 2 to happen?

It should have been that way. Pacquiao's people offered 700k for it, but Berinstain (Marquez' trainer/manager) wanted more than 1 million for it. Pacquiao's people turned it down and he ended up fighting John in Indonesia for about 30k. He was robbed and lost his WBA fether weight title. Some people blame Berinstain for not capitalizing on Marquez' prime years in boxing. He's one of the best trainers out there but he has no business being a manager.Comment

Pac is the one who wanted an immediate rematch and marquez turn down the fight to fight chris john for a bag of peanuts. Marquez didn't want to fight pacquaio again until pacquaio became the biggest name below 140. **** we would have pacquaio vs marquez 3 if Oscar never ducked margarito and call out a super featherweight who only had one fight above 130 and wanted to fight at 147. **** oscar screwed marquez again 2 years later by asking 50/50 for a pacquaio fight since they tried to set up and floyd vs pacquaioComment

Pacquiao and Marquez were offered a 50/50 split by HBO for the immediate rematch in Vegas. I can't remember if they were each offered 500,000 or 700,000, Pacquiao's side agreed and Nacho said Marquez deserved at least a million, and walked away to fight John in Indonesia for 30,000. Neither Pacquiao or Marquez were scared of each other, but Nacho made a horrific business decision that hurt his fighter and himself. It was beyond dumb to do that, and even if they HAD beaten John, how would that fight have given then upward mobility in Marquez's career?
Marquez lost the fight and it took him years to get himself back on track. In the meantime, Pacquiao was taking major fights and becoming a bigger star. 4 years later Nacho and Marquez accepted an offer for much less than 50% for the rematch.
But leave it to people who don't know what they're talking about but won't let a simple detail like that from keeping them from talking saying bull**** like "Pac didn't want any." What happened is common knowledge and has been mentioned on HBO Countdown shows featuring Marquez. They discussed it in detail in either the Marquez vs Barerra or Marquez vs Pacquiao II countdown shows.Last edited by SoZe; 05-17-2010, 10:18 AM.Comment
