It seems like MMA has already surpassed boxing, man.
I don't know where you're from, but MMA gyms have sprouted everywhere. There's hardly any boxing only gyms left. And, in those MMA gyms, the classes that are highly popular is BJJ, which obviously made its name due to UFC's early years.
You see MMA gears, clothing in malls everywhere, where's boxing ? Bars are more likely to carry MMA PPVs than boxing, and it doesn't matter if it's BJ Penn or Machida, but with boxing, bars are highly selective with which PPV they will show.Comment

LOL@ all the ignorant morons confusing UFC/MMA and using those acronyms interchangeably. News flash dumb ****s; UFC is a promotion; MMA is the SPORT. All you idiots confusing the two sound just as dumb as MMA meat head noobs who like to say, "I train UFC bro."
Calling the UFC a sport is akin to saying the IBF is a sport. Get it? Duur. And no comment on the jokers calling it "Cage Fighting." LOL. What are we, in the late 90's again? If you don't like the sport, fine, but there is no reason to be ignorant on the subject.
MMA is clearly not a fad. The sport is growing, not just in North America, but in all the Common Wealth countries, and in some parts of main land Europe as well. It will take years and a lot of nostalgic history for MMA to compete with boxing on a world wide scene.
Boxing has also been making a modest comeback in America lately, thanks in large part to the UFC (and obviously Pacquaio, Mayweather and a lot of exciting FREE fights on the networks). If you're a 'fight fan' times couldn't be better. Competition is what's best for MMA & boxing. Both sports can co-exist and benefit from one another (like they have been doing).Last edited by niteshift; 05-15-2010, 08:51 PM.Comment

Anyone of ya'll wonder why Dana White hasn't been talking all that trash lately that he was talking last year? It's because UFC has been exposed.
UFC had one huge show last year that got 1.6 million buys because Brock Lesnar was fighting. Most people don't realize this is because Brock Lesnar brings over all his WWE fans and WWE is the top PPV seller in the world.
Here's what UFC's pathetic PPV buys have looked like over the course of the past year after the big Lesnar PPV event.
UFC 112: 500k buys
UFC 111: 770k
UFC 110: 215k
UFC 109: 275k
UFC 108: 300K
UFC 107: 620K
UFC 106: 375K
UFC 105: not announced, probably did about 300-400k max.
UFC 104: 500K
UFC 103: 375K
UFC 102: 435K
These are looking like Jones/Hopkins numbers
What a joke. Boxing is dominating UFC and making them its *****. Dana White is a fraud and his 2nd class sport has been exposed as a 2nd hands good store compared to the true elite sport of Boxing.
Here's some of boxing's numbers over the past year:
Pacquiao/Cotto: 1.4+ million
Pacquiao/Clottey: 700k
Pacquiao/Hatton: 900k - 1million
Mayweather/Mosley: 1.4 million
Mayweather/Marquez: 1 million
OWNED.
Floyd and Pac are p4p number one boxers in the world. Some of those UFC's werent even that great bt still sold.Comment

You know what's funny about the bolded is that a lot of people, mainly boxing fans, say MMA is a redneck sport for blood thirsty animals that just wanna pound eachother's faces in. Yet some paper did a piece on MMA VS Boxing and interviewed a bunch of bar owners. The bar owners said they used to show boxing and mma fights, but boxing matches resulted in too many bar fights, so they've decided to show just MMA since the crowds are less violent.
MMA is cure for insomnia for sure.Comment
