That's just dumb. Pacquiao was Mayweather's number 1 option. Mosley his number 2. The Berto cancellation made Mosley available. The "Earthquake" didn't sign the contract for Mayweather.

larry merchant is a senile old man----and he was wrong here with his statements----he is a hypocrite---he has always had something negative to say about floyd and he's a pacquiao groupie----
he says if the fight doesn't happen between it will be floyd's fault---but if the fight does happen---floyd would be the favorite---he knows floyd is better than manny---but he won't come out and say it-----
larry merchant just has an opinion---no credibility----i remember when floyd was at 130, dominating this guy, and larry was mad because he didn't ko him----larry don't know anything about boxing---just like floyd says---and this article proves it that much more----

Hatton-KO'd By Floyd
Cotto-KO'd by Margacheato
Clottey beaten by Cheato and Cotto
Like I said P4P or great matchmaking?
manny, p4p or matchmaking???
same argument for floyd buddy:
baldomir - really???
oscar - past his prime BUT it was still an SD!!! LOL
hatton - overrated and had to move up
jmm - jumped 2 weights for a payday, outclassed in every aspect, old
shane - past his prime, overtrained (i dont agree with this excuse, but this will be the most popular).
Q, come on bro, you know better than that man... lol

Larry's been around the game a long time, that lends itself to acquiring experience and being able to offer insight through those experiences. He knows what drives public demand, because he has seen it before and can make intelligent comparisons.
People can keep making reference to Larry's age, but often fail to realize that Dougie Fischer(respected journalist) and Dan Rafael(respected journalist), often share the same opinions and both individuals happen to be younger, age has nothing to do with shared perspectives.

I don't particularly like Larry Merchant, but he makes some very good points. Everybody just wants to see the good or great fights. But that said, people also want to see the consensus top fighters face each other as well. There's no guarantee that Mayweather/Pacquiao would be a great fight, or even a good one, but that's the fight everbody wants to see because they are the top 2 p4p fighters.
