Will Juan Manuel Marquez Man-Up and Fight Katsidis?

Or will he continue to duck him??? After the Mayweather loss Marquez was still the Lightweight Champ and Katsidis was ranked right behind him......they had plenty of time to get it done, but Marquez was either too busy chasing Pacquiao or afraid of Katsidis

The general consensus is that the July 31 rematch between Marquez and Diaz is a waste of time......Diaz isn't even ranked Top 10 in either Lightweight or Jr. Welterweight......Marquez blatantly snubbed Katsidis

So is Marquez purely fighting for money now and doesn't want to risk getting into the ring with the dangerous Katsidis??

assuming of course Katsidis gets past Mitchell

I think it is an utter load of **** that Marquez still holds all those LW titles when he hasn't defended them since February '09. Keeping Kats waiting for 6 months after the Mayweather loss was ungentlemanly of him.

And then there's fatty boy Diaz, who's effectively lost his last 3 fights, suddenly getting a shot at all of them. :eyeroll:

I'd like to see him fight katsidis too and I do think Marquez is trying to get those last few dollars before he calls it a career. More power to him for it. Deserves it

but cmon you can never say Marquez is afraid of anyone, having fought manny twice and FM once

          yeah totally agree.

Diaz got outboxed twice by Paulie, Marquez effectively damaged him for life and 2 fights previous he lost to Campbell.....

The only reason I believe he beat Katsidis was because of Michael's ****** corner man.......telling him to "stay relaxed" when he needed to fire.....

Diaz just lost the jr.welter title and straight way he gets a shot at being the lineal champ at lightweight.....

meanwhile Katsidis is the newly crowned interim Champ.....

Marquez wasted Katsidis time by holding off for so long

well at this stage of his career Marquez might be afraid to get into the ring with a hungrier, much younger opponent.....

and Katsidis is much more dangerous to Marquez than Diaz

I used to hate Brendon Smith too, but over time I've realised how close he and Kats are. It's like a father-son thing, and I remember reading or hearing somewhere that they've known each other for a decade or a long-ass time. It'd be counterproductive to separate them now, especially since Kats is on a roll and has made slight improvements to his style (mainly the guard).

So in other words, he's set in his ways and obviously won't ever be the greatest of defensive fighters, but at least he's not a totally defenceless punchbag like Hatton, Froch or Valero. Since the Ramirez fight he's been making a genuine effort to keep those earmuffs up, and it showed against Escobedo who couldn't land very cleanly.

As for Marquez, I don't think he's afraid of fighting anyone. Rather, it's a case of him just not being arsed to take high risks for a low reward - most likely he still wants a third Pacquiao fight, or is content with making big money by fighting precious GBP fighters like Diaz.

Agree that katsidis is more dangerous. At this stage it would definitely be a better fight than diaz. But you know how it is money talks. That last fight between diaz n jmm will bring them big dollars to do it again. Still wouldn't have the word "afraid" in the same sentence with jmm one fight removed from fighting floyd

In the Interview after the Graham Earl Fight, Katsidis calls Smith his best mate and that he's "guided him since he was 11 years old"......So i guess that relationship was too strong to break.

And Katsidis is definitely a much more versed boxer than Hatton, Valero etc.....and you may be right about Marquez not wanting to take the high risk-low reward option, or maybe it was Golden Boy's choice, you never know....

And I don't think Marquez is afraid of any fighter, but the way he snubbed Katsidis over the past few months wasn't cool
