Dont go crazy at me because Im not the one who said it. I was listening to a radio show yesterday and I heard a very well respected boxing journalist say this. I was shocked because Ive never heard a journalist go this far before and infact, most of them say that the older guys would kill Floyd.
He said though that he thinks Floyd beats everyone around his weight in the last 30 years and he said the only one who he would even give a chance to is a prime SRL. He was at the Floyd-Mosley fight last week. He said he's going to say this right now and he dont care what outlets hear him. He said that Floyd is the best in the last 30 years. He actually said names. He said that people talk about Sweet Pea as being one of the masters but Mayweather not only wins but dominates Sweet Pea. He said Floyd is too quick for Hearns & Duran.
I personally think people boost the past up too much while dissing the current guys but I havent really thought about Floyd vs all those guys I just named until now. People use to diss Floyd and say he's not them and my response would be that its not fair to Floyd to compare them since you are clearly doing it at WW and it was Hearns & SRL's 1st weight class and they were huge while its Floyd's 4th and he is a very small WW. I said that if you want to compare them then you should do it in a P4P sense. Compare them at WW to Floyd at SFW and I think he easily holds his own.
I said that if you want to compare them at WW then you have to weight to see if Floyd grows into the weight. It became clear that he never would so I wouldnt compare him to the ATGs there but now he has grown into the weight nicely. He's not big like Hearns & SRL but now I think its fair to compare him in some regards. I use to say the same at WW even in regards to Floyd vs Shane, Oscar, & Forrest. I use to think that they may be too big for him but now I would pick this Floyd over all of them in there prime. Its still not 100% the same because they were nice size guys & young. Floyd has grown into this weight but now he's 33 so he doesnt have that prime quickness & movement. He's not like a SFW Floyd at WW. Pac is basically the same guy at every weight. Floyd clearly hasnt been at WW but he's finally coming around now.
I did think it was fair to compare like Floyd at 140 to Sweet Pea and maybe Floyd at LW to Duran. I dont think Floyd really reached his prime until the N'Dou fight but then I think he stalled or went back some when he got to WW and only came into the ring at like 146. Now he's picking up steam again and I think you can start comparing. P4P wise I would put him up with any of those guys in the past. At WW against SRL & Hearns? Thats tough. I have always thought he matches up well with Pea. There are alot of people who say they think Pea is better but Floyd will beat him. Another guy on that same show said that and I think Max use to say soemthing similar.
Another guy on this radio show also agreed that the only guy who could beat Floyd is SRL. I also want to make it clear that he said Floyd was to quick for Duran at "WW". They also later talked about Floyd-Pac but I had to do something and couldnt pick up there thoughts
