I would like to bring up an element that is a bit underrated when the time comes to rate fighters.
I would like to make an analogy with the case of Saddler and Pep, which is very similar to the one of Foreman-Ali. Some people think Saddler should be ranked number 1 AT featherweight, and Pep number 2, because Saddler beat Pep 3 or 4 times (if not more), and Pep beat him only once.
But was Saddler a gracious fighter ? Did he do things only him could do ? No. He was mainly brutal force, dirty and had a granite chin.
Pep, on the other hand, was fantastic to watch. Everything he did was beautiful as Ali would put it. He was unique.
So I do believe that a unique fighter, gracious and skilled will alaways be ranked higher than a brutal force.
Foreman, he was strong, but he was fighting like a mommy. The styles do count when you rank fighters, whether you're aware of it or not.
So in the end, I think Ali would deserve to be ranked higher than Foreman even if Foreman had beaten him. I know it's very debatable, but that's how I look at it.
