So Mayweather/Mosley failed to exceed Pacquiao/Cotto?

Thats sucks. Floyd is supposed to be the biggest draw. Mosley has had NUMEROUS PPV outings. I mean, this fight was promoted as the biggest fight the last couple of years. It was promoted as the biggest fight of the decade. A super SUPER fight. Schaefer said that this fight was the most heavily promoted fight in the history of Golden Boy. They were utilizing avenues which never had been used before to sell the fight. Not only that, Mosley and May are American fighters. 1.2 Millions is still great for boxing, but I have to admit. It does kind of worry me a little because this fight should have done much more than that. How many buys would it have done is Mosley never would have stepped into that ring to confront Floyd?
You can try to compare those numbers to Pac/Clottey, but lets be real. That fight didn't even have a 24/7. Only had 2 months of half ass promotion. Clottey doesn't even have a fan base. Yet it still managed to do 700K. If a comparison is going to be done, it has to be to Pac/Cotto. 1.5 million PPV buys. Pac/Cotto did 1.5 millions buys even though:
Floyd said Cotto was not a PPV attraction
The 24/7 was "boring"
2 non American fighters
After Mayweather/Pacquiao, we will not have any superfights for a very long time. Its going to be a very unsure time for Boxing. HBO needs to carefully use its budget to promote new fighters.
don't worry about what floyd said. cotto has proven to be a far bigger PPV attraction than mosley.
Pac + bigger PPV attraction Cotto got OWNED by Mayweather + smaller PPV attraction Mosley.
Mayweather therefore is the much bigger attraction than Pac.Comment

I don't know why people are even making an issue of a .1 million ppv difference at this point, but to end the discussion, Pac/Cotto wasn't played in movie theaters and that had to have made a difference on the May/Mosley numbers.Comment

a negative difference becuase as far as i know the movie $$$ don't go into the PPV sales!Comment

I just wanted to correct you on the Pacquaio-Cotto PPV buys. No harm intended. The fight generated 1.25m ppv buys. Not 1.5m. That 1.5m number was put out there by Mr. Arum. If you notice, he does that for every Top Rank PPV Event. He has also really done that when it comes to Mr. Pacquaio, I believe because Mr. Mayweather at this point has become the biggest PPV draw, and we all know that Mr. Arum dislikes Mr. Mayweather with a passion.
This PPV Event was compared to the Mayweather-Marquez PPV. I do believe that the Pacquiao-Cotto fight should have generated more based on the popularity of the fighters. Just like the Pacquaio-Clottey was being compared to the Mayweather-Mosley PPV. As far as the expectations, I do believe that GBP, were expecting bigger numbers based on the marketing & promotional dollars that were put into the event, but both parties have stated that they are happy with the numbers of 1.4m buys, and that has placed Mr. Mayweather in the history books again with having the most PPV totals in 7 fights, and has generated more revenue than Oscar De La Hoya, which has taken Mr. De La Hoya 19 fights to do, he also has 3 of the top 5 PPV numbers of any fighter that was a non-heavyweight event. And yes Mr. Pacquiao has 2 as well.
1.Mayweather-De La Hoya 2.44m buys
2.Mayweather-Mosley 1.41m buys
3.Pacquiao-De La Hoya 1.25m buys
4.Pacquiao-Cotto 1.25m buys
5.Mayweather-Marquez 1.1m buys
Here is the actual statement for the Pacquiao-Cotto numbers from ESPN, and I am going to include the link for everyone's viewing.

Manny Pacquiao's historic 12th-round TKO of Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas on Saturday night did big business.
The Top Rank-promoted fight generated 1.25 million buys and $70 million in domestic pay-per-view revenue, HBO announced Friday. If historical trends hold, the numbers will increase when all of the buys are officially audited.
The 1.25 million buys, the most for a boxing pay-per-view this year, came from 650,000 from cable homes and 600,000 from satellite services.
