theres no way Floyd is on Tyson's level. Tyson is a world figure in terms of popularity, he's only a shade under Ali. If those guys were around today we'd be seeing 3 mill+ ppv records.i actually went to that pac-clottey, most mexicans an Filipino were there for manny an the americans were there for the stadium.
hell i really just went for the stadium an to see some boxing.
an floyd definitely isn't on Tyson's level of popularity i have relatives that know who floyd is but my grandmother knew who tyson was.Comment

The tickets for Mayweater-Mosley were far more expensive and that's why the show did not sell out. Pacquiao-Hatton was a sellout. Of course the gate will be bigger when the tickets are that expensive.Mayweather vs mosley does $11.1 million in live gate revenue
pacquiao-cotto had a live gate revenue of $8.84 million
pacquiao-hatton had a live gate revenueof $8.8 million
Numbers dont lie..and we know mosley is nowhere near the same draw as hatton or cotto, the ppv numbers for mayweather vs mosley will prove this again...Comment

exactly.. if the tickets for mayweather-mosley was the same as pacquiao vs cotto or pacquiao vs hatton it would have sold out too, but we know floyd fights are more expensive than pacquiao therefore he did 11.1 million dollars compared to the 8 million of cotto and hatton...
hell pacquiao vs clottey sold had a gate of 50,000 yet it still did around 4 million in gate...i heard some of the tickets were given out though
question for you: the gate will be the bigger if the tickets are more expensive...so why didnt cotto-pacquiao have more expensive tickets? it could have potentially done more in gate and hence more financial revenue and money to be made...boxing economics manLast edited by Versatility; 05-08-2010, 05:07 PM.Comment

If I was greedy and didn't care about the sport I'd fight in a small arena and have huge markup in ticket price.
But in order to showcase Boxing on the biggest stage I'd gladly sell 50,000 tickets cheaply in order to demonstrate Boxing's drawing power and create future fans for the sport.
Call me naive, or call me a diehard boxing fan, but that's the way I'd do it.Comment
