I disagree.. Sweet pea had the FLASHIER defense so it looked more impressive but floyds is more economic. Sweet pea got tagged more than floyd. Watch his entire fights and not just the highlights. Sweet pea got tagged. Economic movement wins out over flash for anyone that knows boxing for real

Who got hit less Floyd or Sweet Pea?

            Its really that simple.

Not literally dummy! Look at Oscar's flurries vs Floyd. Oscar would miss 10 punches and Floyd would always make him pay for that. There used to be gifs of that moment. We also did it to Marquez and Mosley.

Not really, Pernell was more offensive minded. If Floyd opened up as much, he would get hit more obviously. In my opinion, both of their defense are as equally as great.

                  Ill add this dimension.

I say Floyd is the best defnsive fighter ever because of this:

He does the shoulder roll exceptionally well
                  He slips punches exceptionally well
                  His head movement is exceptional
                  His footwork is exceptional
His high guard defense is exceptional
His defense thisclose to an opponent is outstanding
His defense on the ropes is out standing

Every aspect of Defense. Floyd has MASTERED.

Floyd is a fundamentally better defensive fighter, but I don't know if he could make fighters miss with the style Whitaker did, just my personal preference.
Whitaker would spend energy with all that motion gaining little from it. He didn't have the precise timing to put in the punches WHILE he was slipping the punches. He would wait his opponent stopped punching to throw. It's very easy to see how Floyd's defense is more EFFECTIVE. Sure Whitaker looked great doing that, like the Matrix and **** but he didn't score or hurt his opponents while he was doing that. Might as well just run and conserve the energy.

Like someone stated its two different kinds of defenses...I don't think you can really teach what Pernell did...Floyd is great at the technical side of defense...
