Why are Montiel fans happy with a "gotcha" win?

i was excited and at the same time mad because ive been a fan of both for a while now and didnt want to see neither of them lose...montiel since johnny gonzalez fight and hasegawa since his first fight with veeraphol sahaprom

the result was suprising because montiel hadnt been doing well lately and hasegawa was on the rise...in fact i tought hozumi was gonna win by ko but it happens, i hope he comes back and gets a rematch because he is very talented

I just went and watched it after reading this thread and for those that haven't seen it, it was a very good stoppage~Hasegawa was hurt with one hand holding the rope and the other dangling by his side. He was helpless as Montiel threw punch after punch nailing him. Cole made a good stoppage and I usually think fights are stopped too fast!

I've been a fan of Montiel since the Pedro Alcazar fight..... it's a shame Alcazar died .... Montiel was a BEAST.... but I think he is a tad small for Bantamweight..... A guy with a longer reach would give him problems... like Gonzalez did.

Kinda sad to see some Montiel fans pretending that Montiel actually won?

He was losing every round and needed a lucky punch to land and have the skids greased for him by Lawrence Cole to escape with a lucky decision.


I'll bet he probably had a getaway car waiting for him outside too.

Hasegawa was had in his own town..

um... while I do agree that hozumi was winning the fight w/ cleaner punches.... I thought the stoppage was legit.

1. Fernando Montiel actually had fans before this fight? Well now that he won I'm sure he made new fans, myself included.
2. Hasegawa won rounds 1 and 3, round 2 was extremely close.
3. I don't know what to call it when a fighter is clinging on to the ropes with 1 hand and his other hand by his side, while recieiving shots to the cranium. Wouldn't call it "gotcha" though.

Well all I know is that he's been my #1 favorite fighter for the longest time and you can check my old posts if you want....the guy is severely underrated!!!

Nah bro. I don't like the fact that it was stopped on 1 second anymore than you do but after I watched it from a different angle. Hozumi was getting tagged flush with the left hand on that flurry, so I can see how it was stopped.

1 second left, is less than desireable but I can understand why it was stopped the way it was.

it should have been stopped earlier but thanks to the hometown ref, he was at least given very little time to fight back. hazegawa had his right arm down and his left was holding the rope
