Lol reading is fundamental kids. But in the article the author draws excellent comparisons to the journey of Allen Iverson and how divisive the country is with a black president in Barack *****. Take your time man its a great article which points his flaws as a person and reasons why he is the way he is.

It is not a racial issue at all with Floyd. Floyd has his own fan base and it is not exclusive to the black population.

Floyd is either loved or hated. Many Black people find him caustic just like many Mexicans, Whites and Filipinos do. It has everything to do with personality and nothing to do with Skin Color or Ethnic Background.

As for me. One week I can hate him and the next week I like him again. I am very happy he is fighting someone he will need to respect in the ring. That for me at least went a long way to earning my respect back.

Gotcha, i tried to copy and paste for the people at work but it was too long lol. But believe me its a great article and its not one of those biased ones on here that is biased. It makes great points for and against his divisiveness in the sport.

as a black person i agree, i don't think race plays a big part the kfc stuff comes off as racist or just people letting there hate for floyd go to far.

it was a good read but the author made the point that his black friends cheered floyd on for taking on hbo while other races disrespected him for it.

it's as if he's painting the picture blacks support him and other races just hate him and that's just not the case floyd is not liked by and is liked by all types of races so i disagree with the author as well.

I agree with you in that it is not entirely a racial thing or as dramatic as a "Jack Johnson" but there is some racial undertones especially in the names you see "anonymous" people on the internet call him. Compare this to other athletes in the sport of boxing who come off as pricks, brag as much or even trash talk more and are more disrespectful e.g Froch, Mayorga and the backlash is different. Now i'm not saying that he doesn't call it upon himself or its all racial but theres some truth to it.

I agree with you, but what i think the message that the author was trying to convey here is that while there are blacks who don't support his antics or the antics of another athlete of a different race, you are hard pressed to see them go above and beyond to use racially negative portrayals to insult other races while its the opposite when it comes to Mayweather.

Here is his take on the HBO and PPV situation

Within 5 years of this "interaction" with the two most popular fighters of the last 25 years, Floyd called a proposed 6-fight 12.5 million dollar offer from HBO "Slave Wages." And as chat boards exploded with racist rebuttals no one even ventured to query the overhead involved in running a major training camp and just who would pay for the expenses- before Uncle Sam takes his cut. What we did not see is that Floyd Mayweather with no PPV track record wanted "more" and if he had to pay his way out of his Top Rank contract, (turning down 8 million to fight Antonio Margarito) so be it. Already established as a flamboyant, yet prickly personality, Floyd started his PPV journey by playing the villain, going into Arturo Gatti's Atlantic City and undressing the beloved fighter. Gatti, an Italian who brought blood and guts reminiscent of a bygone era was mocked as "Rocky" in front of the largely white east coast delegation. Mayweather took glee in downgrading the white fighter as inferior and only reliable for the purpose of taking punishment. That he executed his taunts and boast to the letter in the ring only worsened matters-the dye was caste. This talented black athlete would patron champions with large fan bases, then (by force of personality) divorce them from the promotional discourse claiming the PPV buys as his own.
