Gans was good.....but what do we know about him? Do we have video footage of him? Do we even know much about his opponents?

Would Roy Jones be top 10? In his prime he was the pound 4 pound standard.

So? What did Gans actually accomplish?

                  Good choice on Joe Gans.

John L. Sullivan said this about him:

“I never liked a Negro as a fighting man…but Gans is the greatest lightweight the ring ever saw. He could lick them all on their best day. Gans is easily the fastest and cleverest man of his weight in the world. He can hit like a mule kicking with either hand.”

Considering that John L. was a racist son of a *****, as well as being a hot-headed ******* on top of that, you have to take it to heart when even he admitted that Gans was a phenom.

Keep in mind also that Gans lost a close decision to Sam Langford, who was another P4P great. Most heavyweights had a hard time with Langford and Gans was a lightweight.

To put this into perspective, imagine Floyd Mayweather going all the way up to light-heavyweight and giving prime Roy Jones all he can handle and losing only by a narrow margin.

Boxing was still in its infancy at the time of Joe Gans. It is very possible that EVERYTHING John L. Sullivan said was true. It doesn't mean it is STILL TRUE. It is like a hundred years later. The sport has evolved so much.
