De la hoya and Vargas for me that fight was just so special because I wanted de la hoya to win so bad and I had never seen him fight before that I just knew who he was and I was so nervous for him and when he started to whoop Vargas ass against the ropes I went crazy I was just so happy and pumped up from then on boxing is what it was
I was on and off prior to Lennox-Tyson, but that one made me realise I have a passion for the sport - I just wasn't in a position to watch the bigger names. Then some money came my way by the time of Mayweather-Hatton, and whilst it wasn't a great fight to watch at the time (I was a devastated Hatton fan), the build-up and huge event left a desire for more. From then on I was able to start getting up to scratch. Slightly later on, it was Katsidis-Earl which made me love the "WAAAAARRRR!!!" aspect of boxing.
I can't really say it was a fight, but more of a boxer who made me a hard core fan. For me it was Erik "El Terrible" Morales. Then who could forget Jose Luis Castillo. His war against Diego Corrales sealed the deal for me.
For me the reason i took a big interest in the sport was the huge publicity around the hatton mayweather fight especially here in England and i was extremely fascinated as i was doing a hell of a lot of research on both guys and that was initally bought me to boxing. The first fight i remember ever staying up for and watching on stream was the great fight between margarito and cotto...that there was the fight that made boxing my number 1 just eclipsing football or soccer for you americans
When I was younger I watched legendary nights Hagler-Hearns followed by the fight itself. At first I thought all boxing matches were like that but I started catching espn classics on the weekend and found out it was much more interesting than that.
As weird as this sounds, Roy Jones Jr.'s destruction of Montell Griffin in their second fight made me a hardcore fan. The complete package of speed, power, just pure boxing greatness.
