  • Cotto Overrated?

I like Cotto but I thought Chop would give him some problems and he did and tonight I thought he looked even worst. The HBO commentators were kissing his ass as usual and alot of you fans thought he looked great but I didnt. I thought he looked on a level below the top guys and I dont think he can beat any of them right now. Tonight I thought he moved way too much and his D still isnt all that. If another fighter did that then HBO wouldve said that he was almost running. Joel did the same thing in the first fight and they were saying that he was running to much. If he fought a guy with more speed then he wouldve been in trouble.

Honestly right now I see him losing to every top fighter at 147, and to Floyd, Hatton, Harris, and Chico. I also may throw in guys like Witter and Gatti but I doubt Gatti.

I liked Cotto but while you guys are thinking he's looking better, Im thinking he's looking worst every fight. I think it's going to be real interesting to see what his promoters do because I still dont think he is ready for Harris or Hatton and those are the 2 that he would probally fight. I actually think that he matches up with Hatton better then any of those other fighters but I will still give the edge to Hatton just because of the Tszyu win.

I think he's good but still not ready yet. What do you guys think?

I think i get where your coming from ,i think maybe cotto could have looked better against abby tho i havent seen him(abby) enough to know what to expect,I thought it would actually go 12 rounds, and i thought that would be a good thing, cotto needs to get more exp,in those late rounds, abduallev was landing some good bodys shots, though i think that was in part to his short height, cotto had to bend over to protect his body basically abby had hi trunks and those elbows to protect his,I dont know i didnt think that fight was cottos best,at first, but you really saw the damage he did in the long run.To abduallev's credit i dont think anybody has tried to fight cotto with that style, and he did okay, but cotto still pulled out the win convincingly.I dont think cotto's overrated tho(I guess it depends on how high people rank him, personally i know he's beatable, but i give him the edge in most fights, except probably Mayweather),and i dont know that the HBO guys were nuthugging, emanuel stated he was a big fan,but not until after, and he gave abduallev the edge in the fight.

at the end of the day Im a cotto fan,and i thought he fought a very intelligent fight, you saw the diffrence between this and the performance he put in against chop.

what specificaly do you think he looks "worst and worst" in every fight?Im curious.

I thought Cotto fought an intelligent and well executed fight. Abdullaev was an extremely strong and tough fighter, who Cotto knew he wasn't gonna stop with a single punch. Miguel moved around because standing in front of Abdullaev and slugging it out would've played right in his hands. Yet at the same time, he wasn't running. He was just giving Abby movement and different angles, but at the same time punching back. Cotto threw many more punches than the stalker, Abby.

This was a nice step up in opposition, imo.

I'm telling you people, I've been saying it from the beginning...

          Harris will knock Cotto out...

          Remember who said it first(ME!)

I actually think that the rule of averages says that Cotto is actually rated right where he should be. How do I determine this proper rating average you wonder? I thought you would never ask. There are a sizeable portion of fans who seem to think that Cotto is the second coming of Christ (minus the beard). And fact is that I have yet to see Cotto beat a top guy at Jr. Welterweight or a bottom one convincingly enough that I am sold, let alone seen him walk on water or turn it to wine. The other half of the world seems to think that Cotto is a first round KO loss waiting to happen, and I am not sold on this side either. But what happens when you average these two together? A boxing public that overall believes Cotto is a young prospect with alot of potential who still has many unanswered question marks floating around him... And with that I retire to bed for the evening.

I was wondering how you percieved this fight tonight, well now I know. Dude we saw eye to eye for a short while and that's cool but once again here is where we see so much differently it is scary.

For one Abby (can't spell it or just don't care right now) is one tough sucker with a very defensive stance that would make alot of fighters look out of their game in the ring right now imo. Not to mention the fact that he hits really hard for such a strange looking dude, true he is awfully slow compared to alot of the top guys in the division, but he makes up for that with pretty crisp shots from a sound defensive stance. Honestly I thought that the fight would go the distance tonight, mostly from the fact that Cotto had alot on the line I figured he would fight not to lose more than to win, but he seemed to want it tonight moreso than his last outing.

I also totally disagree that Cotto and Casamayor fought basically the same way tonight, Joel was running away and punching off of his back foot for the majority of his fight, while Cotto was clearly sitting down on his shots for the majority of his. He would be pretty ****** to not show any movement in a fight and just try to stand there and go blow for blow.

I'm not in what seems to be the majority of people that was all that convinced in Hatton after last weekend, To me he fought a smart tactical albeit a nonconvincing fashion in his "boxing victory" over Tszyu last weekend. And believe me I use the term Boxing loosely, cause to me what happened last weekend is still just a grappling farce. IMO when your opponent has to punch at his own chest with the one hand that you aren't holding that doesn't say much about your inside fighting as much as it says about your holding on and wrestling until the ref says stop and then throwing some pot shots on the break, or firing of a blatant nutshot. But that is what happens when you go fight in England against their hometown boy, still doesn't convice me of his stature in the division. And Hatton's people calling out Chico says even less if you ask me, why call out a fighter from the weight class below when you are in the best division already, Maybe they know that Chico is the only one who will actually take him up on a fight in England or Whales or Eurosomething.

There I've babbled on enough so go ahead and call me a hugger or hater or whatever you will. I just think that Cotto showed more tonight against an underrated opponent than he showed against Chop Chop.

Oh yeah one last thing did anybody else notice that Abbdullaev's spine looked all ****ed up, like different colored dots or a tattoo or some ****?

Lame comparison between Cotto vs Abdulaev and Casamayor vs Kid Diamond.

Cotto landed the betta punches on Abdulaev clearly despite you claimin he jest ran. Running dint shut Abdulaev's eye and bust his face like that! Hope you agree!

Casamayor jest ran and shyt. Dint land enough hard punches that can be consida significant! Kid Diamond was robbed (off topic, but what the hey)

I dunno how stopping a guy in witin the distance look "worst" to you. I think he was impressive. Kinda cautious than befo, but impressive nonetheless.

Fightas get betta each fight, so I believe Cotto can fight a big name opponent next. He's ready!

I also thought Cotto was awsome last night. He fought a smart fight, stayed on the outside and when needed he punished Mohammed. Im not a Cotto fan at all but I really did see the begining of a star in boxing sorta like Tito all over again maybe. Still though I dont think he would be able to beat Floyd or Harris. I dont know about Gatti and Hatton.
