WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan has claimed that Argentine Marcos Maidana in fact ducked him and not the other way around.
It was widely thought that Khan had been advised to avoid his heavy handed mandatory challenger but when posed with the question, “What about a boxer who faces his mandatories or ducks them?” on social networking site Twitter, Freddie Roach’s fighter responded,
“He (Maidana) ducked me I still hold my world title, if I ducked him I would of (have) lost it pal”
This could perhaps be a reference to the claim Maidana took ‘pass over’ money, getting paid so Khan would not have to fulfil his obligation to Maidana his mandatory.
Khan takes on Paulie Malignaggi in New York on May 15th in his US debut.
