I keep this handy because it seems that people don't know how much Floyd is really beloved away from internet land

Over the last three years, the increase in interest measured by pay-per-view buys, measured by media activity, measured by hits on the internet, in the urban communities has been astronomical,” HBO PPV boss Mark Taffet said. “A lot of credit goes to Floyd Mayweather. His star has risen to meteoric heights, and the African-American community has come with him. It literally has added another leg to the stool as far as the boxing audience.”

LOL its like Ukrainians saying they dont like the Klitschkos because they "represent Germany too much"...Without that Mexican following there is no way he gets anywhere close to as big as he got in his career.

Also high school is high school and they are not the ones ordering the PPV, its thier parents who are and thay are the ones that loved DLH lol

Yes Floyd is the top current PPV earner but at the same time he needs a big name alongside him to earn that much and Shane has simply never been the hugest earner for various reasons (reasons such as, he's shy and quiet which doesn't market himself well, he doesn't have a whole country behind him like Pacquiao, etc).

So the point is, I'm sure this will do at least 1 million buys, but honestly I wouldn't even be surprised if it did 800k though I'm personally expecting 1.2 to 1.5mil at the very most.

No way in hell this does 3 mill or even close to 2 million or over.
2 Million is the right neighborhood.... too much promotion not to. And considering all the hype then fallout of the Mayweather v. Pacquiao fight.... that adds to the interest in this fight as well (Im sure the ppv numbers that Pac v. Clottey did benefited as well).

There hasn't been this kind of mainstream interest in a fight since Floyd v. DLH (2.25 million buys..... and I wouldn't be suprised if it broke that)

You definately got this one wrong... lets discuss again mid-May when the numbers come out!

people are putting a lot of weight into the sponsorships/rebates, like the $30 off with a purchase of tecate (whatever the amount is) and another deal where u buy a dewalt tool and get the fight free...i just think that the people taking advantage of those deals were going to order the fight ANYWAYS, and those who were not most likely will still not. IMO, that will only account for MAYBE an extra 50k-100k at most.

The reason is the promotional campaign. This has been the most comprehensive, slick and likely expensive promotion ever. Given that personally IMHO if this fight does under 1.5 million buys i would consider it a flop.

Floyd generally exceeds expetations so if 1.5 ish is the expectation 33% more would be quite a bit but still the JMM fight probably exceeded by a similar %.

Floyd-DLH was a Great Hype but dissappointing fight. No wonder Floyd next didnt make a Million Buys. Retirement for 2 years didnt help floyd's pocket, and now he wants to make money again. His comeback was supported by JMM's Mexican fans, the same fans who hope DLH can do it. JMM's drinking piss helps a lot. So credit to JMM too.

Mosley is a Great PPV partner but he's no DLH or Pac. He doesnt Carry a Country. But he is a Real threat to Floyd so it will sell to hardcore and the English speaking american. But what missing is the Hispanic market. Saul Alvarez in the undercard will help. But not enough to break new grounds. Mosley being a 4-1 underdog and a 38 yrs old is a turn off to some hardcore. Pinoys Pac fans who can afford PPvs(like me) but felt disrespected by Floyd will Boycott the PPV. And Floyd's last fight with JMM is not really exciting... He'll lose some PPV buys.

MY estimate.... 1.2M, This will be less than the Pac-Cotto fight.

If Mosley didnt lose to Cotto, this fight would have been waaay bigger.
He lost to fricken Cotto. If Cotto can beat Shane, so can Floyd. Except this Shane is damn near 3 years older and havent fought in 16 months
