All these alphabet belts are their own undoing. You have multiple champs for each: wbc, wba, ibf, wbo, plus those others like IBO, IBA. Then each has a regular champ, interim, intercontinental, youth, and now wbc has its diamond, while wba has its own version of super champ!! And you also have the Ring. Which is one to be followed? Some say WBC. Some say the Ring. Right now? WHO CARES???!!! Who gives a ****??!!! As far as legacy is concerned, yes, having one of the alphabets gives you some formality. But as far as Mayweather and Pacquiao and those at their levels, once they have a belt on a certain weight division, they DON'T need to defend it or regain it anymore, if they want/don't want to. It doesnt make any business sense, nor any boxing sense, for that matter.

Surely one of the main reasons behind this is to upset Shane Mosley. Floyd doesn't need a belt, especially not another random alphabelt one, so it doesn't matter to him. It matters to Shane because he's no longer the defending champion. Floyd can walk to the ring 2nd and Shane is once again outdone by Floyd.

Dude shut up! Either get with the times or go watch old videos. I hate when people complain about how boxing was better back in the day. If you don't like it now then don't watch it. How is Mayweather killing the sport when he brings tremedous interest from casual fans and generates more money then you will ever see in your life? I'm not a big fan of his, but I won't ignore the facts. Whether you hate him or not you will still tune in May 1st to see him fight. FACT!!
