I have been critical of May Jr but this is a smart move the belts mean nothing anyway.

    Smart move.

Why pay to be 1 of 4/5/6 champions. He will still have beaten the WBA Welterweight Champ that matters more than actually holding the belt.

I congradulate Mayweather. I dislike him, but this is actually good for the sport.

The sanctioning bodies WBA WBC WBO IBF LMN OPQ RST UV rob boxers so the can have a belt which means nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

    Good on ya Floyd !!!!!
(but you'll still loose to Pacquiao who has the only title worth fighting for)

so he doesnt want to add another world championship???? he would rather be a 6 time world champ than a 7 time world champ????? he just doesnt wanna pay any sanctioning fees.

Maybe he should just do what Pac does. Win the belt, tie it up for a year or more without defending it, refuse to vacate it, bull**** everyone into thinking that you might actually defend it someday, never actually defend it, and ultimately give it up anyways. Yeah, thats much better.........

Another example of why the ABC even interim belts are important: Take our new MW champion Martinez, He would not have had the opportunity to fight for the lineal MW title if not for a vacant interim WBC title.

The fight with him while unknown and Bunema would not have been on HBO at all with out the WBC trying to legitimize it as a world title fight.

Why would it be? they are just a journeyman and an unknown fighter with a good record but a belt makes it seem more important.

If it had not been on HBO which it would not have without a belt on the line then no one would have seen Martinez or his skills and he would still be fighting nobodies in Spain or Argentina instead of being MW champ right now.

Floyd has alot of influence in the sport because he is a world wide known star if he is able to make the belts seem like worthless garbage then their power to legitimize fighters is hurt like the WBC interim title was able to legitimize Martinez.

I agree with the part that he doesn't want the belt because he doesn't want to be told who to fight, but as far as the sport being dead, that's crap. You're letting your hatred for Floyd permeate into all of boxing. Boxing is alive and well, except for maybe the Heavyweight division. The Klitscho's are some boring dudes and would have been the Jerry Cooney's of the Ali era and the Tommy Morrison's of the Holyfield and Rid**** Bowe era, beat b+ fighters but couuld touch the A+ fighters. Maybe Haye will bring some excitment to the division.

Haye brings excitement to press conferences. Other than that the only thing he's bringing to the heavyweight division is excuses to not fight either Klit bro. Wlad pulled his B**** card like Mosley pulled Mayweathers. Only difference is May and Mosley fight in a week, while Wlad and Haye.................................still waiting............................oh wait a min.....oops thought I saw it..........................yeah won't happen anytime soon

So much for his reasoning for OST. The whole purpose ( or so he claimed ) was because it would be better for boxing period. By not fighting for the belt it makes a total mockery of the sport and makes it seem solely on $$$. Don't get me wrong it's prizefighting, but to make a fight at this magnitude and not make it a title fight is just absurd. Plain ******.
