Edwin Valero; How good could he have been?

First & foremost let me just say what a sad tragic event this is. I hope & pray that Valero's 2 young children get some support from family, friends, & the government & they somehow find a way to cope with this tragedy & live meaningful lives.

With that said, this is a boxing site & Valero was a rising star in the sport. how great do you guys think Valero could have been? What is his upside had this tragedy never happened?

Does he have a Manny Pacquiao like career? I know his last fight vs demarco, showtime commentators were making comparisons to Pacquiao.

What do you guys think his boxing plateau would have been? Is he the next Pacquiao? Or is he along the lines of Diego Corrales & Acelino Freitas? Murderous power punchers with very good boxing career but slightly below Hall of Fame material.

His style, strength, & machismo reminds me of Rafael Limon.
In my opinion his talent was more than good enough to make it to the hall fame. He could have had a Danny Red Lopez or Orlando Canizales type career.

    What do you guys say?

He would have had a great career no doubt, mental issues aside. Great power and showed some real boxing ability in his fight against DeMarco. I became a fan in that fight.

It is a shame that the sport has lost such a talent, but that becomes irrelevant when you consider that he killed an innocent woman and potentially ruined the life of his children.

    **** that ****.

My guess is he would have been a HOF. He'll always be remembered for his amazing KO record. My guess is he'll be a legend in Venezuela and only known by hardcore boxing fans 20 years from now.

With just 27 fights under his belt & only 28 years of age he was already a 2 division champion. That antonio demarco fight really showed a more complete multi faceted fighter than previously advertised. It would not have been a stretch to see him get a belt at 140. His aggressive style with his speed, power, & really heavy pressure does remind you of a young Pacquiao but judging both guys in the 27 fight stage of their careers valero was much more advanced than Pacquiao in my opinion.

On the real tho.. as a boxer he had potential. I don't care what people say about what caliber opponents he fought, the man had a 100% KO rate.. did we really see his full potential? No, not even close. He was a warrior in the ring, outside of the ring he was a questionable human being..

His potential made him a 2 division champion. I think his potential as a great fighter was the only thing left to discover. True greatness can only be verified by stepping in the ring with another great fighter. That was the only thing missing with valero.

We can only go by conjecture & how well antonio demarco's career ends up being.

it would have been great to see him fight a great fighter like juan manuel marquez & see how valero would adjust & attact a seasoned, smart, & technically gifted albeit long the tooth counter puncher.
