I can't believe anyone would have him as more than an average fighter. when he never faced a real contemder and still was handed a title.

we are judging on what he could have done, not what he has done. Its pretty obvious with his talent, speed, & power along with his record to indicate that 27-0 with 27 kos has to be somewhat respected along with being a 2 division champion. I think edwin valero's real style came out of the demarco fight, his toughest challenge. Not the wild swinging madman who was knocking out bums in the first round. Ive seen sparring videos of valero vs the santa cruz brothers & he showed the type of aggressiveness w/ patience he showed in the demarco fight. He was also the main sparring partner of erik morales vs morales first fight with pacquiao & was not hired again i heard because he was too rough physically for morales as a sparring partner. he was also allegedly the guy who gave oscar a shiner for oscar's fight vs pacquiao.

There's a reason why amir khan, juan manuel marquez, & juan diaz didnt fight valero when all were at 135. The guy is more than an above average fighter.

Valero would have gotten KO'd, Bob-Arum was trying to set up a Pacquiao/Valero fight. What a huge mismatch that would have been.

The dude was knocking out guys on the first, second or third round.. his potential was only hindered by the fact that he was never given the oppurtunity of fighting viable opponents. He was destined to make a name for himself.. unfortunately he did by murdering

i feel kind of bad writing it since he just died, but i cant change opinion on someones fighting ability just bcuz they died.

i always thought he was a hypejob waiting to be exposed, sorry but thats just how i saw it. always respected him though, didnt strike me as a guy who wanted to be protected.

even if he hadnt been a top p4p fighter he still wouldve been great for the sport, like a smaller edison miranda. sad to see him go.

he had everything the pacman had from a physical & boxing standpoint. The one big thing that separates both of them & why i dont think valero could have been the next pacman is that he doesnt have a good head above his shoulders. Something was clearly off between the ears. He doesnt have the mental stability & determination it takes to be great for a long period of time.

He was one of the best ..if he lived a healthy life and if everything went according to plan he would end up as a boxing legend.
