Simply because of who he's fought.
going into the Bunema fight, people didn't know who Martinez was. He was the underdog in that fight and dominated Bunema.

going into the Cintron fight, people STILL weren't sold on Martinez and Martinez beat him 2 times that night.

going into the Williams fight, Martinez was supposed to be murdered and mutilated and lost a fight ALOT of people felt he should have won.

And now, this former WW, just beat the Middleweight champion of the world.

Whats it going to take for this guy not to be overrated?

he does a lot of things that make him a pretty good fighter. he's got good footwork, a decent beard, and has a decent workrate, however he throws alot of arm punches and is very much a one trick pony in the punches he throws.

You gotta admit, Martinez had the upperhand on that short notice. He started training for the fight way before Williams even accepted it, and Williams had to switch from training for a one dimension, flat footed orthodox power puncher to a slick, southpaw speedster. Not easy at all.

Right the same Pavlik that looked completely outclassed v.s. a 40 something year old legend, and a Williams who was made to look like a total ****ing amateur against Quintana in the first fight.

Sure he stopped him in the second but dude whatever.

There are tiers and classes of Top flight fighters.

Catching other former champs and style made fights will surely lead you to success though and everyone will consider you god.

The only fighter I see beating Martinez at 154 and 160 is Paul Williams. He's just that good.
I agree Paul Williams is the only one that can beat him because he has the work rate to beat him... Also i'd like to pat my self on the back i've picked more upsets on this site probably then anyone... let me recall all of the upsets i've picked since being a member on this site:

            Pacquiao over De La Hoya
            Mosley over Margarito
            Ward over Kessler
            Dirrell over Abraham
            Martinez over Pavlik

Who else had all five of those fights right... Get on my boxing analysis level muh****as hahahaha

Williams is still overrated and was fortunate that Martinez didnt have proper time to prepare. Martinez got tired in that fight and Williams was able to weather being hurt and continue to throw and even then I still think Martinez bested him.

I think a rematch would be good but Id give the edge to Martinez unless Williams improves his defense.

Pavlik also showed he is capable of beating Martinez so looking forward to that rematch as well.

I dont think Martinez is overrated it wasnt that long ago that people were saying Williams would walk through him. Now hes the MW champ he deserves the credit.

Calling him top 5 material is ******ed In my opinion.

                My only point.

He hasn't beat anyone worth putting him in that list.

Nah, I was a fan when I saw the Bunema fight.

That was the 1st time I had seen him, and knew he was a special fighter.

I never called him a top P4P fighter, but looking at the current landscape of the P4P list, it wouldn't be an outrage to place him there. But I do agree that he needs more work on his resume to land top placement.
