  • Martinez's fighting style vs. Floy's

ok first i wanna start by sayin no troll thread. i love boxing, i love different styles from manny's brawling foot work to winky's come forward peek a boo/jab style.

yet i find ppl on here call other fighters runners. why is it on here ppl consider mayweather a runner whilst martinez, who fights quite similar, is glorified???i dont get it. sure martinez stopped running in the later rounds tonite, but thats because he got tired. he's not a combo puncher like that, he throws a basic 1-2 combo but he does a lot of potshotting as well. i like both fighters styles but how is one running and the other isnt??

Martinez vs. Floyd...I'd want to see that BAD. But Martinez isn't that big a name.

Mayweather fights off the backfoot and potshots.

Martinez takes RISKS, throws COMBINATIONs, and is not afraid to mix it up if he has to.

3 things that Mayweather totally lacked in his recent fight.

Because people hate Floyd. Martinez hasn't given anyone a reason to hate him, unless they're a Williams or Pavlik fanboy.

And to the above poster, Mayweather does throw combinations when he needs to. You will definitely see a lot more of that on May 1st, because he certainly isn't beating Mosley by potshotting.

martinez does his own fair share of potshotting. and if u pay attention, he's a saftey first fighter as well, the only time he took risks is when he realized he was losing the fight a la floyd. when he's in trouble in a fight, he takes risks.

martinez was not mixing it up until the later rounds when he ran out of energy. that rarely happens to floyd. im conviced if martinez was as skilled a boxer as floyd, he wouldnt take that many risks as well. u can tell what type of fighter a person is by how they start a fight. not by how they finish. a saftey first fighter starts the fight by playing it safe on the outside, just like martinez did.

floyd xylocaine jr's technique is much better.... I mean much much much better. I don't see floyd getting off balance or getting put down because he's off balance.

that said, martinez actually throws combinations and doesn't just potshot. but, martinez also doesn't sit down on his punches to get the KO.

on a whole, floyd technique is alot better... I mean light years better. but martinez is more exciting to watch and his fights always have drama.

You're calling Sergio a Safety first fighter because he's staying on the outside?

That's not being a safety first fighter, that's good strategy against a taller more powerful guy that has 11 lbs on you. Even then Martinez was taking big risks trying to land with his left and got caught several times with a big right hook.

Go watch Martinez-Williams and then come back and tell me that Martinez and Floyd have similar styles.

Him and Floyd fight NOTHING alike. Thank god for that.
