Yeah, this fight against Mosley will do a lot for Mayweather's legacy. If he wins he can erase a lot of doubts people have. If he loses it'll reinforce everything his critics have ever said. At the very least it'll answer a lot of the speculation regarding his place in history as a great.

Great article. I am sure there will be 100 posts on this article from haters claiming this writer doesn't know what he is talking about and dis*****g anything positive about Mayweather. However, the fact remains that everything this guy has said is true.

Man, Fitzsimmons you are such a Mayweather jocker. I'm not saying he wasn't an elite lightweight, but what has he done at 147? You are such a hypocrite, giving Hopkins **** about Trinidad and De La Hoya at 160, when JMM and Hatton were both out of their natural weight class (JMM by a LOT!).

That said, I am glad, glad, GLAD! He's finally taking on Mosley, even if its about 5 years too late in terms of prime, Mosley is an elite fighter, and should prove one of Mayweather's toughest opponents to date. While Mosley may not be prime, I'm one person that won't be citing age as a reason why Mayweather beat Mosley. I'm not saying he's not great, I'm just saying he's ducked a LOT of the best fighters at the higher weights. Period.

Couple that with his more frequent failures in the last 5-7 years (terrible in the terrible Matrix 2, terrible rap career, terrible announcer, terrible losses by KO) and you get a public that forgets how special he was at one point.

Mayweather is a different beast all together. He's just an unlikable dude (by his own design, I'm sure the guy is quite affable when the cameras are off). Many of us fans are disappointed by how he (VERY safely) has steered his career. For myself, I look at him with disappointment because I see his talent yet, I don't see him exploit it or let it elevate him to something greater. The JMM fight was an example of a guy that was collecting a paycheck. He could have "gone for it" at any point and wowed the fans in a similar way that Roy Jones used to do but he safely let it play out until it went to the cards. You can still be entertaining while you dominate. See: 90's Roy Jones Jr, 80's Tyson et al. Mayweather can't be bothered. Anyone shelling out $50 for his fights has a legitimate gripe.

It's not that Mayweather isn't great, he's just disappointing to those of us that recognize how much greater and more interesting he could be IN the ring.

(I understand he's 40-0. If you're bringing that up, you're missing the essence of my post. Of course, I don't expect many of you racist, ****phobic mongoloids to understand it anyway.)
mayweather called out damn near everyone. dont put it on mayweather that its his fault when bob arums is the snake that prevented the fights may was asking for

              Lyle we are notworthy!!!!!

              nothing but truth.

For me it has always been this order:

              1. RJJ

              2. Toney

              3. Hopkins

People seem to forget Toney was on a rampage when Roy beat him.

As for Floyd he may not get the credit he deserves....but there is a reason he is the biggest draw in boxing. He is a proven fighter.....and lets not forget he dominated almost all fighters he faced.

actually Marquez had just knocked out 2 guys @ 135 that were never knocked out then only had to gain 7lbs (142lbs) to fight Mayweather
