You are getting ahead of yourself. Margarito is just being used as an option to pressure Mayweather, and please provide some evidence that HBO PPV wouldn't distribute a Pacquiao-Margarito fight. The truth is that they'd be all over that if it happens. And it is a long way from being made.

so is it the aspect that Manny cannot fight certain fighters that is the point?

if that is the case then I see the point but even if Manny had no promoter what makes you or anyone think the negotiations get any better because he isn't associated with Top Rank?

if anything Manny's star appeal, while is mostly because of his style, Top Rank should get some credit for as well. They have done a great job in keeping him fighting and building a fan base.

yea they did a great job but when ur too big for top rank, ur too big for top rank. they can help u reach a certain level but when u need to get past tht, its time to leave. both mayweather and dlh proved tht. i dnt get y ppl cant see this...eventually manny is gonna catch on and get tired of fightin the same old top rank fighters and hes gonna get out of there.

ok u really think hbo is gonna carry a fight with pac and margs, when the only fighter margs has fought in a year is an unknown bum???they wont support arum in that, im sorry i dont see it. thats basically destroying one of their assets as well.

I think you need to be associated with a top promoter because it takes time to build that type of team and most career's in boxing are very short espeacially when you consider peak earning time so most fighters do not have the time to develope such a unit.

Still though I think the Mayweather route is a good route if you can make it work.

Trust me a Pacquiao/Margarito fight would be on HBO PPV with 24/7, Everyone loves drama and the plaster-gate is worthy of a 24/7 alone..

Top Rank certainly deserves credit both in building Manny's appeal and guiding his career.

My issue has to do with the last two fights and while both events did quite well I just got the overall feeling that Top Rank was not doing all they could to promote the fight. That is not to say they did not do a decent job but to me it seemed they were doing it in a cost effective way but even if that self is not wrong (it is a business afterall and don't want to spending on diminishing returns) they could have been more inivative with their capital instead of just seeming to be doing the bare minimum.

                      biased article.

                      1. delahoya and hatton were tougher fights for pacquiao than for mayweather. situations were different even though the opponents were the same.

                      2. pacquiao was moving up 2 divisions to fight delahoya compared to floyd moving up 1 division to fight delahoya. pacquiao was also the underdog to delahoya unlike floyd who was the favorite against delahoya.

                      3. pacquiao was fighting hatton at 140 , hatton's best weight. hatton was also coming off an impressive win at 140 and pacquiao had only fought twice above 130. floyd on the otherhand fought hatton at 147 where hatton didn't look good at while floyd was the established champion at 147.

                      4. funny how he mentions margarito hasn't fought in over a year. floyd is fighting mosley. mosley's last fight was the same fight against margarito.

                      5. so what if pacquiao fights top rank fighters? cotto was considered #2 in the division. clottey #5. criticize pacquiao for fighting guys that floyd didn't? funny.
