Comments Thread For: Steward: "Miguel Cotto Can Not Afford To Lose Again"

After taking a significant amount of punishment in three of his last four fights, former two-division champion Miguel Cotto knew it was time for a change. On Wednesday, Cotto officially announced one of the worst kept secrets in boxing, that he hired Emanuel Steward to replace Joe Santiago as the head trainer. [Click Here To Read More]

No, he can't lose again and I am glad Steward is bringing that mentality.

Not right away he can't. If he were to beat Foreman and rattle off a series of wins, perhaps he'd restore his reputation to the point of being able to handle a setback. But in his next fight or 2, it's win or go home for Cotto. I have him beating Foreman, but losing to anyone else at 154.

It's really simple, it was a tactical mistake for Cotto to have come in at 145 against Pacman. He should have come in at the welterweight limit of 147, paid the fine and put a hurting on Pacman with the added energy and speed he would have had. Emmanuel Steward is getting ready to look like a boxing genius now that Cotto will move up to a comfortable 154 lbs. Cotto will not have to expend much energy making weight and I see no reason why he won't have a revived career at this weight class.

If Cotto wins Pacquiao will fight him for his title at a catchweight of 150 lbs. FACT!
