You're going to use retired 170lb Trinidad as your measuring stick?

I'm a huge Calzaghe fan, but even I can't give him credit for his win against RJJ.....RJJ was shot beyond belief, he wasn't half the fighter he was.

Calzaghe should have fought Pavlik instead. He could have been the one to "expose" Pavlik and that would have put Joe up many more notches in the eyes of the doubters, and a great win to go out on. His match against RJJ was a joke and embarrassing.

People give Mayweather flack for retiring, but Calzaghe should get as much if not more flack. That's probably the best division in boxing right now. You just aren't talking about 1 or 2 fighters as with the Mayweather retiring situation. That's Ward, Dirrell, Froch, and Abraham, and he has Chad Dawson at Light-Heavy.

Abraham was at middleweight and seeking a match with Pavlik.

When Joe retired who was Andre Ward? Who was Andre Dirrell? They were still up and comers, no one ever suggested that Calz should have not retired and instead "He should fight Andre Dirrell/Ward" they've come a long way since Calz retired. It's ludicrous to suggest he retired and ducked them....they were nobodies back then.

As for Froch, fair enough, he was a mandatory for Joe C's WBC, but once again Froch was not proven at the world stage and Joe pretty much made it clear he was going out against RJJ. He wasn't interested in going back down from light heavyweight to SMW. And besides, Froch wouldn't beat Calz imo.

The only fighters who were considered as viable opponents for Joe when he retired was Hopkins in a rematch or Chad Dawson. He didn't really want to beat Hopkins again and Chad Dawson wasn't really a name. And Calzaghe was 37, Mayweather was 31? and Mayweather retired when there were still prime fighters like Cotto, Margarito around and competitive fighters like Mosley and Clottey.

Calzaghe retired in 2008. Ward and Dirrell were unheard of. Froch hadnt won a world title yet. Abraham was at 160. Dawson was the only guy who was really out there at the time and he'd just come off a life n death struggle with Glen Johnson.

I remember before Joe fought Lacy....Lacy was really hyped up as the man to dominate at Super Middleweight. He was undefeated and a big favourite in America. All we could hear was how he was gonna knock Joe spark out.

Of course, Calzaghe completely dominated him and made him look bad. Then all of a sudden it's 'who's Jeff Lacy? Jeff Lacy's a bum' etc etc. Guys crack me up. Funny ****ers!
