Undefeated at 140 was the specific claim.
No one was taking anything away from Floyd.

Agreed. Without the delaHoya $$$$$ as bait, Pac might not have
raced up in weight so aggressively. It would have set the stage for
Pac-JMM 3, and I'm pretty sure Pac at that stage would kill JMM.

The premise is that delaHoya would fight Cotto at catchweight, and
I'm certain Cotto would have won. There would then be the temptation
for Cotto (as there was in reality for Pac) to move up in weight: other
than Floyd (retired), who else would there have been at WW to beat,
if Margs was a non-issue? Cotto would move up to find fresh meat.

If Floyd unretired THEN, Mosley might be the man to beat at WW, but
Floyd would probably face lesser opponents first. Remember, in the real
world, until Berto was forced to back out... Floyd was making noise
about unheralded Matty Hatton(!!!), after having fought little Marquez.
There would also be risk of Shane either retiring or chasing Cotto out of
desperation ($$$$), to further make a Floyd-Shane bout less likely.

And finally, would we see Pacquiao fight guys like Bradley, Witter, Valero, Holt, etc since he'd probably clear LW and JWW in this alternative universe? I think Pacquiao-Holt at 140 could be a good fight if both are at their best. Valero would get KO'ed easily, Witter would quit like he did against Alexander and the Bradley fight would be VERY interesting.
Yes, yes and yes... virtually all those named would be sonned.
(Valero getting KTFO might rival Hatton's fall, for sheer spectacle.)
Only Bradley might have the tools to tax Pac's ass.

Pac would've still been a phenom, but sans win over Oscar, no superstar.
Cotto would've reaped the bonanza instead.

I was going to point that out that Cotto would have probably rematched Mosley after the Cotto-De La Hoya fight, but the result is still a bit dodgy because even though we saw a new Mosley in the fight vs. Margarito, there is still a ? whereas he looked so superior because of the style match-up or he is now superior to all styles, remember Cotto style is different than Margarito's.
