...and I'll agree with you, but just like many fighters in the history of Boxing (Leonard, Hagler, Mayweather, Tyson, etc) Cotto won't be crucified for fighting lesser opponents here and there. Williams was an up and comer who was a huge prospect in the making, but not a star attraction just yet. Williams was still working up the ranks just like Cotto did prior at 140 before making the move to 147. Cotto himself wasn't a star overnight, he just kept fighting until he got his call. I think Williams' team were really impatient and tried to make fights elsewhere as the headliner, but they ultimately found out he's not there just yet. Him fighting and beating Pavlik IMO puts him over the top in today's scenario.Comment

A lot of people didn't want to fight him, and neither did fans want to see him that bad basing it off the attendance for his biggest fight to date against Winky Wright. They had to move people down to the front rows so it didn't look as if there was nobody there. When they panned away that's when you REALLY saw it.
Williams has the worst of both worlds, a risky fighter who brings no money. But if the answer you're looking for is "Williams would beat Cotto", then yea you could be right.Last edited by Zarco; 03-31-2010, 03:58 PM.Comment
