i think it can if cotto beats foreman. he'd have another belt in another division. and he can defend it and bank off that.. i can see james kirkland coming back and using cotto as a stepping stone. that would be nice. but at the sametime i can see arum not making it happen so golden boy doesnt cash in. bobby doesnt do what helps the sport he does what helps his pockets

He might be the world beater some thought but he's a damn good fighter and I think a change from trainer will help him out a lot. Sometimes a fighter just needs a change of scenery, something to get them away from the distractions he had before.

Cotto is a tough fighter and will give anyone a hell of a fight.
Good post ... completely agree !!!

It doesn't hurt to have Steward but at this point its probably too late. Not sure if he can really fix Cotto's defense. He has always be susceptible to the uppercut and shots down the middle

It's an improvement from where Cotto was at as far as his corner is concerned.

Steward over the yrs has been very vocal about the mistakes Cotto makes in the ring. If he can somehow clear up a good majority of that and also focus on Cotto's attributes to tighten those up, It may work out to be a good move.

          We'll find out in June.

Cotto has looked like ass since firing his uncle, honestly i thought that would help him, but it hasn't.

So the big war w/ marg plus firing his uncle, i think cotto needs a break and a new trainer, but i don't think he's finished i think he just needs to rebuild from the ground up, get rid of the bad habbits he's picked up after the margaritto fight.

This is my thought as well, i think steward could be good for him because he sees things in cotto that others were overlooking. His commentary in the Margaritto fight was brilliant, Lampley and Co were all talking about how baddass cotto was doing and Steward was noticing the decline in the fight.

no trainer in the world can fix a glass jaw when that glass is shattered. although cotto has never had much of a chin...so mebbe if he works heavily on his defense...but nahh man, i think its too late.

I certainly think that Cotto has the potential to improve 5% or 10% more, and Steward is a great trainer.

I guess it depends on how well they go together. Cotto's stamina is an issue, and Steward didn't really improve Taylor's stamina when he worked with him, so it's possible that Manny isn't able to help. I don't think he really improved Taylor at all to be honest.

I think Cotto would have a slightly better chance against Foreman, Berto, Spinks, Cintron etc. with Steward in his corner. But I can't see him beating Pac or Margarito. Maybe he could do slightly better against them, but I'd be surprised if Cotto made any big improvement to his style/technique at this stage of his career.

The fact that Steward has spoke about Cotto several times before makes me think that he's seen things that he thinks he can work on and improve, so maybe he has a trick or two up his sleeve.
