Cotto's done against top competition, but he could stick around and beat 2nd tier fighters. There's no shame in that. He's put in his work and probably deserves a little bank account padding.

done against top competition? give me a break. the guy's only two losses came at the hands of, suspended for attempted cheating, plasterito and the other one who's considered one of the top 3 greatest of all time - manny pacquiao.

He might be the world beater some thought but he's a damn good fighter and I think a change from trainer will help him out a lot. Sometimes a fighter just needs a change of scenery, something to get them away from the distractions he had before.

Cotto is a tough fighter and will give anyone a hell of a fight.
Yeah he gave Pacquiao a hell of a fight.

I think he has a good chance against Foreman, but that's not top level comp.

Like it or not, Cotto had the fight beat out of him against Margacheato. You don't come back from that kind of beating.

i agree somewhat.....cotto is a good fighter, and will give anybody a tough fight, but that's what they said about clottey too.

the point of the thread was whether or not steward could get cotto back to that "elite" level he once had. IMO he's not the same guy since margarito, and when he's in there with good competition, he's now prone to getting hurt earlier and earlier in fights.

i think cotto will probably stay TOP 5 in w/e weight class he enters, but i don't know whether it's too late at this point for steward to add enough wrinkles to the dudes game to have him considered a threat to "world class" fighters.

i also agree with the dude who said it's up to cotto....you have to wonder whether he even believes himself, he belongs in there with the best fighters. doesn't matter how good, or how good he thought he was before, his confidence has to be shaken a bit, given what's went down in his last 4 fights.

Cotto hasn't been the same mentally since Margarito and the Pacquiao beatdown wouldn't of helped his confidence.

Steward could improve Cotto's defense, and might be able to bring Cotto back mentally.

Overall though, i don't see him making much of a difference.

At least he is an improvement from yes-man Santiago.

That's because Hatton and Oscar are also finished. Clottey is just a "never was been" and while he was dominated and showed no heart he wasn't beat the f-ck up like Cotto was.
