I can't stand it when boxers use that theory as a reason why they don't need to fight someone.
    you may be correct sir

I have to be honest with everybody here. I was a big Hopkins fan a year ago, but now not so much. And I feel like he has turned his back on the people who put money in his pockets to watch him perform by going after a shot ass Roy Jones.

With that said, I can't say I don't disagree with anything he said in that interview about Chad Dawson. They guy is a bland fighter that creates no excitement inside the ring and given the fact that he has looked vulnerable Hopkins wouldn't get that much credit for beating him. Hopkins brings up Dawson's first fight with Glen Johnson and what you've got to remember is, once that fight was over with, potential Dawson-Hopkins and Dawson-Calzaghe threads would only generate like 3 or 4 pages worth of comments while Pavlik against those guys would generate like 14 or 15 pages of comments. That doesn't mean Pavlik is better than Dawson. But it caused Pavlik to be more highly regarded of the two during that time frame.

I think Dawson is a good fighter, but once I saw Johnson give him the biz in the first fight, I didn't view this guy as the next coming of Jesus Christ. Johnson's legs were gone in the rematch and Dawson had the benefit of using a big ring to stink the joint out even though he landed some flashy punches to pile up the rounds in a one-sided fight. As to who I think would win between Hopkins and Dawson I really don't know. You have to factor in Hopkins' age now, but if he's the same guy who schooled Pavlik, I would easily pick him to beat Dawson.

Obviously you're a BHop fan. So am I, but I think he's ducking Chad. What's that b.s. statement he made about Chad not doing anything for his legacy. What did Enriqu Ornelas, who he just fought in Dec, do for his legacy. I don't believe Ornelas is a ppv draw either. BHop is afraid of speed at this stage of his carrier that's why he wants to fight the winner of Haye/Ruiz. Chad would tap that ass.

I think Dawson has the skills and talent to be one of the greatest LHW's since RJJ, he's that good, but I question his mentally and his commitment to wanting to be the best. He's too inactive, he's too much of a cherry picker, and he's wasting his prime years by not fighting the best opponents that are in front of him (Diaconu, Cloud). He's dropping belts, he's fighting rematch clauses, and it's hurting his stock.

If I were Dawson's manager, I would of told him to drop the WBC belt in 2008 and rematch Glen Johnson right away. Dawson should have done that.

Dawson would dominate Hopkins at this point.

            It wouldn't even be competitive.

            Bernard knows that.

It's just too risky for Hopkins to fight Dawson. If he loses, people might look down at him like he's finished and if he wins, Dawson is not a marketable name so it wont make big difference. The comon HBO fan dosent know Dawson.

Dawson has been receiving plenty hype from boxing fans and the boxing media, I'm surprised it hasn't spilled over to the mainstream fans.

And people on here act clueless to the stuff that goes on behind the scenes. It's like everytime I get on a thread about these two people just automatically say Hopkins is afraid of Dawson in fear of simply losing when it's more detailed than that. I mean, do you think Hopkins wants to split the $3 million with Dawson down the middle that HBO offered for the fight? Even though Hopkins is rated #3 now, the fight would still crown a Ring champ which is good. I'm not saying I don't want to see the fight, because I do. I can just understand why Hopkins doesn't want to fight him and a lot of people don't.

Most boxers if they were in Dawson's situation, they would fight the best, they would make a statement and let Hopkins know that he can't hide. Dawson should have already fought Diaconu or Cloud, but he's delaying fights and dropping belts. And because of Dawson's cherry picking, he's losing drawing power, therefore Hopkins doesn't need to fight him.

When Hopkins said that Dawson hasn't proven himself, he's exactly right. He's telling Dawson that he hasn't done enough to solidify himself as the best LHW. In 2008 Hopkins told Dawson that he should go to Romania and fight Adrian Diaconu. Hopkins also said Dawson should have fought Glen Johnson right away, he could have done one of those options and his stock wouldn't have dropped so much. Now Dawson is stuck in a situation where he is inactive until August.

Dawson doesnt sell enough tickets. He needs to clean the division and show his face at big fights to get more casual fans.
