Comments Thread For: Steward Rips David Haye: 'Klitschko Fight Never Happens'

The trainer for IBF/IBO/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, Emanuel Steward, has ripped WBA champion David Haye for running away from the Klitschko brothers. Steward says a fight between Wladimir and Haye will never happen. After the Wladimir knocked out Eddie Chambers on Saturday night in Germany, Steward told BoxingScene.com that Haye is nothing more than talk. In 2009, Haye was scheduled to fight both Klitschko brothers. He withdrew from both fights. [Click Here To Read More]

Wlad fight - Setanta goes bust = Haye doesn't get paid. Klitschko tied him into a slave contract.

Vitali fight - Klitschko tried to tie him into a slave contract, a much better deal came along.

Haye vs Klitschko will happen. Haye is desperate for it to happen. But Haye is a big name and deserves a good contract. When Wlad and Vitali realise that Haye will be the biggest payday of their careers, they might offer him an improved deal and get the fight made. Until then...

Steward definitely seems to have a chip on his shoulder. Something has him pissed off, but I'm all for his honest opinion. I agree with everything except the bits about Povetkin. I think Atlas would be happy to get Povetkin in the ring with Wladimir.

Who has Haye beaten at Heavyweight that makes him deserving of a good contract? Guys don't get good contracts just because they can punch and get knocked the **** out. 75-25 Klitschko. Haye doesn't like it, he can enjoy being a lesser 'champion' beating people in his homeland. I love how he calls himself the Heavyweight Champion of the World! Lol, as if beating Valuev was an accomplishment.

I think Emmanuel is right, Haye is planning to keep the WBA belt hostage fighting the WBA circle-jerk, like Valuev did.

Steward is mad because he realises that Haye and Povetkin are the only genuine threats to Wlad in the HW division. If Wlad fought and beat these fighters he would at least have some sort of career defining wins. In a sense Steward's coaching legacy is dependent on Wlad's success. I'm sure Steward doesn't want to be remembered as the trainer of a heavyweight who was never really been tested or threatened by other elite fighters.

Wlad is a great heavyweight with a good resume, but he could easily have an excellent resume if he adds dominating wins over Haye and Povetkin to the list.

What's this "slave contract" nonsense. Always an excuse for malingering. Haye didn't even give the Klitschkos time to renegotiate a new contract, before he made an excuse not to fight. Perhaps, giving him the benefit of the doubt, he is superstitious and saw in the Setanta downfall, a harbinger of his own beating up. Of course that wouldn't take a genius to foresee.

He was offered a fighter's "bonanza", that is a contract for the 3 biggest fights in heavyweight boxing; it's very normal, even expected, that a top fighter will have a return fight by contract, in case of a loss. AND, if he won again, a lucrative meeting with the other top gun in boxing, the Klitschko brother.

What more could a fighter want?? A disability pension??

A 90-10 is what Haye was offered for the first Klitschko fight. A split that high in favour of Wlad is a disgrace. Now 70-30 for a fighter of Haye's caliber is much more closer to the mark. Haye doesn't deserve parity, but unifying the cruiserweight divsion and winning a title in the heavyweight division should earn him a decent contract.
