Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: 'Saul Alvarez Can Be Like Chavez is Mexico'

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya sees no reason to rush the career of undefeated welterweight prospect Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez of Mexico. Alvarez, 19-years-old, makes his debut as a Golden Boy fighter on the May 1 undercard to Floyd Mayweather Jr-Shane Mosley in Las Vegas, Nevada. [Click Here To Read More]

I hope so.He's got pretty good speed and power,But if he can
take a punch i can see hm going pretty far.Boxing needs more
young stars to come up.Hopefully he doesnt get rushed.

Oscar is wilidin'!!! Chavez was probably the greatest LATINO Boxer ever. The man is beyond a ****ing legend in Mexico. Even if Saul has a spectacular career, there won't ever be another Chavez. If you think about it, Oscar & Julio weren't good friends at all, so in ways, this was kind of like a cheap shot taken at Chavez imo.

Saul is only 19 but he fights with amazing calmness, like a veteran. He just needs to improve his defense, and apparently he has a good chin, like most Mexicans/ Latinos. He also has power.

Alvarez has the potential to be Mexico's next great champion. But there will never be another Chavez.

He already sells out every single arena he fights in.
