700k is a solid amount from either fighter when fighting someone thats hardly bringing in many buys.
you cant compare the numbers on fights though as an exact forumla for which is the bigger drawing fighter i dont think, as too many varible factors that influence the final number - they both draw big and need to get their stuff sorted out and fight

And Marquez has been in PPV battles before including the record for most buys under Welter w/ Pac, also w/ Diaz in the fight of the year last year. Marquez is FAR more recognizable than Clottey and Floyd couldn't sell out his own backyard for that fight, what like 16,000? Plus like you said they had like 1/2 a year worth of promotions, 24/7, Mexican Independence Day, 2 PPV draws.
But in the end, I don't know why fans brag about fighters' numbers, it's not like they will see a dime of that money. I couldn't give a s*** who the bigger draw is, if there's a great fight on the horizon, I'm tuning in.

And the fight still couldn't sell out the MGM. There was hardly any marketing or promoting for this fight and it still did very well because Pac is a ****ing rockstar.

Floyd Mayweather is clearly a bigger start than Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather brought in a million P.P.V. when he fought against Marquez. Pacquiano fought Marquez twice and didn't bring in a million buys in either one of those fights. Now we see Pacquiano 700 to 800 thousand pay per view buys with this fight. Clearly, the American fighter Floyd Mayweather is the bigger star. Even when you compare the P.P.V. numbers that Mayweather had with Hatton and Oscar with the numbers that Pacquiano had with them, we see that Mayweather is by for superior. It's time for us to stop being prejudice and to stop hating on the American fighter Floyd Mayweather. Floyd Mayweather is the biggest super star in boxing today. All roads lead to Money Mayweather.

I disagree. Clottey might not be a house hold name but he is well known to boxing fans. Clottey has been in big fights with Margacheato, Judah, Corrales, Cotto and Baldomir and is a former world champion. That merits something. There are Clottey fans out there. They didnt pay him a million + for nothing. Either way you look at it Floyd did far better with pretty much an equally known fighter in Marquez.

Definitely overachieved IMO. Shane/Floyd though easily does over a million. Then the winner of these fights.....OMG. If it was Floyd/Pacman I could see it being the biggest and most watched boxing fight ever....
