Floyd vs Clottey at 147lbs - break it down

you're right. clottey doesnt punch when hes getting punchedBut the problem is, Clottey can't mix up his defense and offense. He's like Arthur Abraham without the KO power. So if he shells up, Floyd can attack and when he attacks, he'll get countered. If he could do both, like Wright or Louis, then I'd give him a chance. Heck, he probably would have beaten Margo if he could do that.
manny and margarito had the perfect game plan vs the shell defense: high volume punching.
floyd doesnt do that.
plus i think floyd's power is less intimidating. i think clottey would open up more vs floyd.Comment

I think Clottey has lost his right to participate in big fights, even hypothetical ones.
Floyd wins a wide UD.Comment

I would give you green k if I could but i'm maxxed out still. This is a perfect analysis of this match up. Great post, not even the slightest bit of bias in this post. This would be a lopsided, boring 120-108 decision in favor of Mayweather, similar to the Baldomir fight. If Clottey shells up, the key to Floyd's victory would be body punching and footspeed, just like Pacquiao. Floyd is a better bodypuncher than Manny in my opinion, so he'd have a little more effect in that department. Clottey wouldn't be so afraid to take chances against a lighter punching Mayweather, but he'd fail miserably because of Floyd's defense, and get countered all night. That would be the key to his downfall.
If you think Clottey's compubox scores were horrible in the Pac fight, this would give you a heart attack...I wouldn't be surprised if he went several rounds without landing a punch at all.
Clottey might score less than 108 though to be honest.Last edited by F l i c k e r; 03-16-2010, 12:41 AM.Comment

I wish Clottey the very best in his career. I do believe he has created the perfect technique for his defensive style a little more polishing is needed though. That is stepping on his opponents foot. He hasn't shown this style before correct me if I am wrong.Comment
