Why Mayweather's Defense is more effective than Clottey's.

Yes, Clottey neutralized Pacquiao's offense to only land 20 percent of his 1200+ punches. However, the difference between Mayweather's Defense and Clottey's comes down to one thing.

    Countering.

I did not see a single counter punch from Clottey. His Defense was Defense only. Clottey could never throw a punch from his guard, Either he was on defense (which was 95% of the time) or he was on offense.

Floyd who is now mostly a defensive fighter can at least throw punches out of his defense on a reflextive instinct. He can guard just as good as Clottey but throw way more punches.
Also Floyd difference isn't just limited to a cover up, or shoulder roll. He has something that Clottey has never had and that is movement and footwork.

Just something to think about when people believe a high workrate is the best way to beat a defensive fighter. It may beat up Winky Wright (Paul Williams) or make a Clottey look timid (Pacquiao) but it will have a limited effect on the Mayweather style defense.

Clotteys defense is better imo. Clottey has never been hurt while Floyd has been hurt by many.

Agreed.I was telling these dumtards that Floyd would use lateral movement to off set Pac`s Flurries.

Floyd has fought alot of Pressure fighters and beat them easily but these idiots still think Pressure is the way to beat Floyd.

Cotto hurt Clottey. I never really seen Mayweather hurt and he's never been on ***** street once.

Mayweather's physical attributes like his speed and reflexes also play a huge role in his defense

Clottey was just pretending. Floyd got hurt many times thats why he needed 2 year vacation to heal his body.

Floyd will counter and move more, but that's part of the issue as well. He's more about slipping/avoiding punches than blocking and he lands a high percentage of shots...but he's never been a big workrate guy, and Pacquiao didn't slow at all against probably a harder puncher in Clottey. Floyd can't slip them all, and I question what happens when Pac lands on him. Have to see them in the ring together to find out though.

Clottey's defence and Mayweathers defence is completely different.

Clottey is a shell, tight as hell, hands high and elbows tucked in. His defence is based on covering himself up and because of his natural strength and body type this defence works well for him.

Mayweathers defence is based on head movement, reflexes, footwork and body movement, plus his guard is alot more open than Clotteys meaning it is easier for him to counter.

Just because they are both classed as 'defensive' fighters you cant really compare them to each other.
