Yes, Clottey neutralized Pacquiao's offense to only land 20 percent of his 1200+ punches. However, the difference between Mayweather's Defense and Clottey's comes down to one thing.
Countering.
I did not see a single counter punch from Clottey. His Defense was Defense only. Clottey could never throw a punch from his guard, Either he was on defense (which was 95% of the time) or he was on offense.
Floyd who is now mostly a defensive fighter can at least throw punches out of his defense on a reflextive instinct. He can guard just as good as Clottey but throw way more punches.
Also Floyd difference isn't just limited to a cover up, or shoulder roll. He has something that Clottey has never had and that is movement and footwork.
Just something to think about when people believe a high workrate is the best way to beat a defensive fighter. It may beat up Winky Wright (Paul Williams) or make a Clottey look timid (Pacquiao) but it will have a limited effect on the Mayweather style defense.
