There is no doubt that Clottey didn't show up and it's the reason our sport suffers.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

This was a fight that needed to be exciting, so that we could qualm all the talks of Boxing being dead. I expect the major sports outlets to rip Clottey and "The Event" as a whole a new one.

I guess Clottey weighed his odds and decided that losing by wide UD was better than knocked out. I don't blame Pacquiao. He did what he could to make it a fight.

That was Joshua Clottey's chance to show the world who he was, and he blew it. Now he'll just be known as the guy that stood there and showed no heart at all. The world has seen Joshua Clottey and I doubt they will want to see more.

I must say I'm surprised to log in here this morning and see such an adverse reaction to the fight, and more specifically Clottey's performance.

It wasn't an all-guns-blazing war but I found it a very intriguing fight and thought Clottey gave a decent showing of himself. He didn't throw enough punches and was too content to stay in his shell overall but isn't that what everyone was predicting prior to the fight anyway? That's just Joshua's style. He did, however, show an inhuman amount of toughness of grit in the face of a vicious and constant, at times sickening, body attack.

When Clottey threw he looked effective, but I can guarantee you that is only down to his patience in picking and choosing the exact right moments to fire back.

He was just physically out-matched in there at the end of the day. He had no answer for Pacquiao's relentlessness, reflexes, power and speed. Whenever he attempted to lead the action he was caught with numerous thudding punches. If he'd tried to do that all night he may not have lasted those twelve rounds.

All in all, my thoughts about last night's main event are that:
        - It was a very watchable, intriguing fight.
        - Clottey showed he can hang with any boxer in the world.
        - Clottey could've further utilised a strong jab to off-set Pacquiao's flurries and in turn allow him to open up and score points.
        - Pacquiao looked great, and had to have if he wanted to win, let alone in such dominant fashion.
        - Pacquiao's right hook to the body is sick!

People ***ing wonder why some people have switched to MMA or why I see one of the complaints of boxing being boring, this is the reason why! Clottey doesn't deserve a dollar for this fight. I hate the guy more than anyone ever in this sport because he slapped it in the face last night, spit right in every fan that has tried to get people excited about boxing and then he does this.

And for anyone to defend Clottey and what he did, piss on you too. If you were there to win and you knew you had lost every round, by round 8, you would throw more and give yourself a chance. He never tried, not one ***ing round did he give himself a chance to win! I'm still fuming pissed from what Clottey did. He set us back once again because of his greed for taking this fight. If you aren't showing up to win then don't show up at all, Grand***ot Clottey!

You snatched my thoughts right out of my head.Give it back you thief.

He should consider that his last worthy paycheck and last thoughts of ever becoming something great out of Ghana. He blew that **** BIG TIME.
I have to agree with you on this...Clottey showed no heart and no balls. So many times I was shouting "throw a ****ing punch"...it just got awful. How can anyone stand in one place and cover their head all night like a disgraced ostridge?
He will be nothing but a gatekeeper in the division.Just to think he made it a close fight with Cotto suggests how much Cotto has really slipped after Margarito got to him...
I believe Clottey got screwed in the Cotto fight, but turned around and screwed all of the fans out of a competitive fight this time when he had the tools to make it such.Let him take small paydays against the bottom feeders on ESPN FNFs for all I care...

This was the thing that floyd has been doing for more than half a decade now.

You obviously hate Floyd and that's fine, but come on man. Floyd has never fought like that. He may fight defensive and on his back foot but the guy throws punches, and his defense is pretty interesting to watch with the rolls. Clottey held his hands taped to his face, there wasn't anything pretty or talented about that defense.

He was the most undeserving opponent in the sweepstakes anyway because he showed his true colors when he couldn't even close the show against Cotto. Bradley, Alexander, Valero, Maidana, Funeka, all would've been tougher challenges for Pac even though they fight in lower weight classes.

Sometimes your opponents so great that you cant fight how you would like to

e.g. Some football teams defend in their half for a whole game just to get a draw....
