    Most memorable referee instructions

Trivial? Sure. But sometimes this moment is the most tense, memorable and exciting in a bout.

It came to mind because I'm compiling some fights, and there's Ali's provoking of Foreman during their clash and Foreman's great staredown with Frazier (currently left).

One of the most notable had to be the complete absense of this event in the Lewis-Tyson fight, an act which I thought brought a level of disgrace to the sport. Speaking of Lewis, I loved the look on the ref's face during the second Rahman fight, right after he says "God bless America" - never mind Rahman, that referee was terrified!

But for me the one that sticks in the mind the most is a very recent one, I'm sure you'll know it...

That was kind of scary, too, because the look of not just intent, but absolute certainity on Tarver's face was incredible. I know this is the sort of bull**** people always say after the event, but when I saw both the faces of those fighters I felt Roy was in for an upset.

"You got any excuses tonight, Roy?"

"Let's not ask that sort of question."

"You got any excuses tonight, Roooooy?"

Staredowns or the referee's instructions? Staredowns, I would mention a lot like pretty much everything by Trinidad, Hearns, or Vargas. Referee's instructions, I gotta go with the guy in the Trinidad-Carr fight. Both fighters were trying to psyche each other down and the referee kept telling both of them to look at him while he gave instructions. Only time I have seen a referee who does not allow a staredown.

And remember when Michael Gomez pushed his forehead against Alex Arthur's when arthur tried to get in the ring?... LOL!...

Remember Joe's face in the Holmes-Frazier fight? It was Marvin's bout but Joe looked like he wanted some of the action himself.
