Actually, preparing these old clips, unless the fights are very heavily edited (I'm talking mid-70s heavyweight bouts here) there's no great build-up. Any comments about the boxer's record, who the ref is, who the judge is, that's all left to titles and the commentators. It's a straight ring entrance, ref's instructions and that's it, straight on.

I can appreciate them having to introduce the current heavyweights, but is skipping all the pre-hype better, do you think?

I do like the introduction of the fighters... But I do get pissed off with all the waiting around we get these days.

I strongly disslike it when they have the national anthems (people singing in the ring).

That does my head in... I'm thinking - "JUST GET ON WITH THE FIGHT!!!"... LOL!...

It's just embarrassing when the fight is like Saturday night's... I stayed up till 4am Limey time, put up with about ten minutes of ramble... then it's over in less than a minute.

              Best ref's instructions:

              JOHN RUIZ vs. FRES OQUENDO

the fake little scrap that the trainers got into was far more entertaining than the actual fight

in addition to the ones already submitted,i'd say the Holyfield v Tyson II ref instr/staredown. this is an interesting study in human behavior and psychology only when compared to the ref instr/staredown of Holyfield v Tyson I.

Tyson had that "I'm gonna kill you!" look in the staredown of the first fight, but in the second fight, he had the "please don't hurt me Mr. Holyfield!" look...

GREAT CALL, I remember the same thing, Tyson didn't have the Eye of the Tiger in the rematch with Evander....he also looked dazed & confused during his ringwalk vs. Lennox

wassup SacTown1? i need to go back and look at the Tyson v Lewis fight (hope i still have it!). all i remember about that is the line of "armed" security guards that separated the fighters.

i just read your signature...i'm trippin over "Tszyu over Hatton by brutal mid-round KO, then Manchester over Tszyu via a brutal beer-motivated mugging"
